You can stumble upon some really unusual places on this earth, this was one of them for me.

taken on the first day of a 3 day hike from kalaw to inle, just off a dirt road somewhere between those two locales. though it might seem so, this was not due to fire, its just the way it was.... certainly my guide had no explanation.

I would have loved to have someone exiting the frame on either the left or right side just behind the trees.... but it wasnt meant to be.....

I will include an alternate (wider-view) version in a WORKSHOP -- let me know which you prefer if you have the time.

Hello Steve,

Nice to see you are back on TE and to discover a new nice B&W photo. I really find your are doing good transformation of the photo from color version to B&W.
I like the composition of this photo: simple, each element is separated from the other, the sky is deep and in opposition with the "white" grass of the ground. It will produce a great A3 print.
I prefer this version to the one in workshop, mainly because on the vertical frame, the foreground is a little too dark and it put far the trees which are to my mind the real subject of the photo.

Yves.

Excellent composition Steve - must admit I prefer this version to the workshop. Perfectly balanced shot. I like the dark sky too. Very weird place. Regards, Roberto

Whoaa...this is an interesting shot, it seems clear yet ambiguous as to what this place is or was. Fire, famine, drought or similar strange phenomenon our nature has come upon.

Both images were taken impressively, both straightforward images showing details, texture and fantastic tones. I think I like the vertical, it's foreground is more interesting with so many traces of textures and details that can trigger what the 'state' of the place is, perhaps see an evidence of what had happened around this area, sort of...makes me look for things around it...amazing depth as well IMO.

Well done Steve!

Hi Steve;

I'm just looking through your gallery- and I'm really quite impressed with the standard of your work. You have a really good eye, and I can tell you're no slouch behind the computer either... (PP: level adjustments, B&W conversions etc.)

The horizon very low in the frame makes for a good compo, the strong shadowing really highlights those bare trees. Overall excellent work Steve...

Hi Steve,
An unusual place for sure! You made a great work here,in fitting black and white tones. An artwork in the nature!

Thomas

Love it, your (and many others) best picture of Myanmar, no one in sight (it would lose if), but everything is said. Bravo!
