[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the first things that 'hits' you when you go to Burma is the wonderful use by women and children of thanaka, a natural sunscreen/cream made from the bark of the thanaka tree. For a photographer its sudden eden, photogenic faces galore and smiles abound! You suddenly get a very itchy shudder finger to say the least ;)

Taken on the third day of a 3-day trek from Kalaw to Inle lake, I found this woman taking a break from her daily labours in the fields. I am not sure how aesthetically pleasing this photo will be to my fellow TE'ers, but for me it brings back very fond memories of a day well spent hiking the hills and meeting the people of an enigmatic country that I dearly long to go back too......

Go, you won't regret it....

Lovely high key portrait, almost monochromatic on a pinkish basis. technically it shows the superiority of the 5D with the delicate 85/1.8, a winning couple, the detail rendition even both in the highlight and the shadow parts is incredible.

I absolutely love how the tones of the shirt, skin, lips and even letters melt together. The big compo feature here is how you used the shadow to draw a diagonal, which adds dynamism to the pic. Clearly one of the very best color portraits I've seen in a long time.
(and yes of course tanaka is a blessing, something you 'd like to always carry in your photo bag as a portrait prop, when thngs are not as pleasant as in Burma)

Nice shot Steve...

An appealing DOF that brings attention to the ladies face. I'm guessing the mud/ powder on the face is some sort of home made sunblock? I don't recall seeing any women wearing this facial stuff in Asia before...

Nice shot,
- Dan

Hi Steve,
very nice portrait you got here (great use of the f1.8)The sharpness of the face, the overall monomome color setting, very good. Just the eyes in the shade makes it perfect. Very well executed!

Hi Steve.
Really nice portrait, I like your pov, very good effect.
The game of shadow on the face is very interesting and make a excellent contrast with all the "cream" tones.
Well done.
