Photographer’s Note

Good morning, have a great weekend everybody.

Today I'd like to show you this cute little girl from Myanmar.
When we visited the famous golden Buddha at Mahamuni-Temple in Mandaly we also saw a wonderful ceremony.
Several young boys and girls in a procession - the Shin Pu - the novice-consecration, the boys dressed like princes, also the girls in pink with beautiful glittering pearls everywhere.

After the procession under the golden umbrellas they are going to be a Monk or a Nun and stay in the monastary for some days.
Their hairs will be shaved.

It seemed this girl wasn't very happy on this important day and she cried while shaving her hairs.
But there was an Ice-seller and every girl and boy got a big ice after the ceremony ;-)

It was an impressive moment for us to be there at such a wonderful day. I hope you also like it, bye.

Hallo Sabine,
farbenfroh und gute Schärfentiefe. Die Schärfe liegt genau auf Nase, Mund und Augen. Das Mädchen wird sicher mal eine richtige Schönheit. Allerdings schaudert es mich wenn ich kleine Mädchen mit Lippenstift sehe. Das erinnert mich an amerikanische Schönheitswettbewerbe.

This is a very high impact colourful shot. The tight framing makes the picture jump out strongly. I like the connection with the subject's eys in particular. The expressison looks a little nervous but you have captrued the scene well, nevertheless. The shot needs a little more sharpness, as it is a bit soft, but overall an excellent effort.

Hi Sabine, what wonderful rich color and a sweet portrait. Most of all it is a great document of the Burmese Theravada culture. I am so interested to hear of girls being given the same treatment, because here it applies only to boys. I talked with some Burmese nuns recently and I understand that they have a much higher status than nuns do here. Great Picture. Regards Kevin

You seem to have captured the soul, the essence, the life of this girl. She does "NOT want to be a Nun". She seems to be TOO young to decide and too young for other's to decide for her!
