A gritty portrait, but then Burma is.
Like many countries in the third world, Burmese do not have the luxury of a social-safety net - a pension, as with this eldery lady she must earn her few kyat per day by selling her peanuts on the streets of Yangon.

Good morning Elaine,
You couldn't have chosen a better title. Nice shot from the street of Yangoon of this working old woman and her equipment. Nice earthern colours with her white shirt and the blue pillar as a good contrast.
I have done a WS :O)
Off to work now - have a nice day.

Excellent composition and POV. The entire picture is very well balanced with the baskets and the fire place on bottom half and the lady in the center of the upper half. To add interest to the composition you got the blue pipe on the left and the floor gap on the right. Very well done.

Your giving us a great perspective on daily life in this rather tough place to live. Great pose, great title.

nicely captured photo. This is centrally framed but I really dont mind, the central placement he is very well substantiated by the geometry of the element distribution. Because of the way you set this photo up with the 3 evenly placed elements on the ground, the central placement of the woman feels mor than natural. The moment is well captured, with an expressive facial expresison of the old lady. Its a beautiful photograph.

I don't know about "gritty" but it is a very honest portrait, beautifully measured and subdued, and truly captures this lady's life, in its limitatuons and insufficiencies. Stirling work, Elaine.

Touching scene, especially as you captured her holding those peanuts as if she was holding something so precious. It's sad that old people have to work in the street like that.

Hi Elaine, A striking portrait of this courageous lady. Interesting also to see Tina's WS, and the evolution of age on the lady. Striking to realise that she sits on the street every day on that very spot for only God knows how many years. I do like the colour tones here a lot, they somehow add to the atmosphere you captured here. Funny how that one leg of her little stove is balancing at the edge of the gutter. This is a strong photo! good street scene, I like her gesture and her face expression.
The title is excellent, as your note.
Hard life for old people in this country and many others.

Expressive an emotive shot. I like the moment of capture with the lady actually holding the nuts at the time. I also like the detailed expression on the face, which shows the effects of a hard life. Very well achieved and well spotted.
