A Room with a View Photo

Photographer’s Note

As many know Inle lake is beautiful, we wanted to spend a day on the lake but wanted to avoid the over touristy side, the markets where there are more souvenirs than local produce. Fortunately,we met a boatman with a reasonable knowledge of English and he understood what we were looking for. The following day at 5:30am he took us to an area on the far side of the on the lake which has only recently opened up to foreigners. We visited vibrant Pa-O tribal markets, his friends in Shan villages and crumbling old pagodas around the lake shore. It was a day to remember.
Here we are in the kitchen of his friend, his daughter is preparing lunch - drying meat hangs over the stove, her newly acquired blue plastic colanders, (of which she was very proud) hang on the wall, and just look at that view.

Bonjour Elaine,
Je suis encore extrèmement surpris de l'aptitude du D 70 à traiter les basses lumières. Cette image très bien composée est un petit bijou en matière d'exposition. Les hautes lumières de la fenêtre sont parfaites et aucun noir n'est bouché dans la maison. Du très joli travail !

Very good exposure Elaine, "correct" for the world outside the window, whilst retaining enough, natural looking light and visible detail in the house. It works very well.

Dag Elaine,
A wonderful inside view from this house full with kitchen stuff, which is well exposed because it's full of black colour toning.
Because of those blacks, it's remarkable that the outside view is also well exposed, this looks like a double edit raw exposure and fit together using a layer mask.
All the digital tricks may be used to get the best reslut from a picture. So, i like this, very good work...your doing well ;-)

Nice shot here showing us a scene of daily life. Good work on the light, although the conditions shouldn't have been perfect.

Hi Elaine,
I like this a lot! I can feel the life of the people in this and it's as if I have entered their house looking at your picture. The window view is a lovely bonus. Your exposure is well managed without overexposing the view at the same time retaining good details indoors. Everything works. If I'm being very picky I'd remove those light blue objects right hand side.

A rather splendid shot here, Elaine, aptly titled too ;o) That view looks like a painting from here, a poster on the wall... Very nice twist on the environmental portrait genre.

Hi Elaine, The effect this image gives is really great. I breathe in the tranquillity, calmness and beauty of the scene through the window; while inside the girl just goes about her work. Splendid combination of scenes here! I don't know when I will ever return to Myanmar, but I know I will at some point. It seems like you have found a good boatman and I wouldn’t mind penning down his details if you have a moment to send them to me. Sabine
