Photographer's Note

There is a limited range of subjects in Burmese art, but the variety within this range is limitless. This is the first of the three caves at Pindaya; these occur along a ridge in a south to north axis. There are more than 8,000 images of the Buddha to be seen within the first of the three caves - the only one that may be entered along the ridge. These images date from the latter part of the 18th century and later. As may be expected, the atmosphere is somewhat humid.
