The Pah-O people are one of the ethnic minority groups in Shan State. Also known as the Taungthu people they can be found throughout eastern Burma and they are the second largest ethnic group in Shan State after the Inthas. They are mostly engaged in agriculture, cultivating their staple cash crops and the 'thanapet trees', the leaves of which are used for wrapping tobacco and other herbs to make most of the country’s cheroots. Taunggyi, the state capital some 30km northeast is renowned for producing the best cheroots in Burma.
Shot taken at Nyaung Shwe busy market. A colorful
Pah-O lady and her inevitable cheroot.

Amazing that this one has been disregarded so far ! Maybe because all Europe is still asleep on a Sunday morning !
Anyway, top quality, nice compo, good colors

Excellent portrait, the quality of this picture stands out here (even if others might have received more attention) - really great work! A cheroot in the face of anti-smoking day! I love it!

It's a beautiful portrait. I like the way she defiantly looks at the on-looker. I agree with Benny above, sort of audacious to show someone smoking nowadays! (Well, in my cultural entourage at least.)
Have a nice day, Claude.

A colourful, expressive and direct portrait. Well composed and good use of depth of field blurring out the background.

Excellent framed shot of this woman smoking a cigar. Personally I would had give her a bit more space for the hand, but I still like your hot - in particular her expression is superb. Thanks for your critique of my Kampung shot. I try to tell the story of the kampung life to the TE community.

Beautiful close-up portrait of this Pah-O lady. Lovely colours and texture of her skin illuminated by the well-managed light. Great sharpness against the blurred background.
I have read about the cheroot, that it helps keep away from some diseases like malaria, but what about cancer, like tobacco ?
Thanks for sharing.
