I like this. The expression on the boys face and the detail in the background is great. I'm surprised to how cold Mandalay looks (though still warm enough for the obligatory slippers!)

Good shot with great expressions. Love the depth you have created with the person in the background. Well done.

The boy is definitely the center of attention on this beautiful photo, The bright background and the rope add beauty to the whole picture.
Very nice
He has such a funny look! and looked kind of stubborn until i read your note about the weather conditions...hahaha! I really like the subdued tones and the overall compo in this shot! The rope and the kid are the keys to the whole scene to me;-) great shot
I did not know a group of TE had gone to mynamar. who was there? great idea? how long for did you guys go?

Nice to see you back, Darren. Really looking forward to see the same things through different TE eyes.
Let' start with this one I guess you could have called it the triangular kid from his hood legs position or even flipflops. If you look behind him it, there's even a trinagular opening, it seems like a kiddie game to push him through teh opening.
Colors are ok, I like the rope intrusion too but there's something fishy about the whole : I can't really make any connection between the kid and the guy standing behind, it lacks some dynamics or fluidity that would help me imagine the story.
I guess I will take that like first settings on burmese premises and wait for more meaningful shots.
Btw, I'm eager to ask you that question : how did you go with that TMZ film I advised? (my nightmare is things I would have said that would turn out to total crap for other users...).

I have to disagree with Luko about this - I think this is a good portrait - the boy is clearly the main subject (your compositoin makes that clear), BUt, (and this is the big good thing), it's not just yet another cute kid shot - the pic doesn't say 'here's a cute kid, ethnic class, 3rd world subdivision,' it says that this is just noe particluar kid, he's cold on a cold morning, he works with this rope and these people on this boat...in other words it has context and individuality. (Ok, so he doesn't actually work with the ropes, he works in the galley, but the fib isn't too large). Even that man has a reason for being in the pic - he's a member of the ferry cerw, like the little boy.
To make my comments more concrete, imagine a nice big coffee table book about Burma, not the tourist Burma but Burma as lived by its own people - this photo would have a place.

Nice image reading the story behind the image swang my interpretation of the image considerably. It appears like he could be a stow away and is being guarded by the fitst mate. Interesting.
