Photographer’s Note

This island in the fog is in Mrauk U.
Mrauk-U was the capital city of 48 kings for 355 years and was founded by King Mong Saw Mon in 1430. The city offers the visitor many chances to study the cultural and traditional heritage handed down to the present day Rakhine generation by their forefathers. Mrauk U can rightfully be claimed as the “Open-air Museum” of the arts and culture of the people of Rakhine.
The Golden days of this city were between the 16th and 17th centuries and contemporary to the days of the Tudor Kings, the Moghuls, the Ayuthaya Kings and the Ava (Inwa), Taungoo and Hanthawaddy Kings of Myanmar.
The city was well-fortified with 19 mile long fortification walls, moats and natural barriers: the then war-torn Rakhines began to regard it as the “Promised Land”.
The only way to reach this fantastic place is by boat from Sittwe.It lasts 4-6 hours.
When you arrive at Sittwe airport.Mr.Zaw Lin Oo will be there,he organizes charters for private boats,because the cheaper government boat is only running twice a week.
THE SPEEDBOATS OF THE "Malika Express Ferry company" ARE NO MORE RUNNING AFTER SOME ACCIDENTS,WHERE LOCALS AND TOURISTS DIED.
If you go to Mrauk U by private boat,do`nt forget earplugs.....

Olá Andreas, this is gorgeous and being in such a remote place of dificult access make it even more especial. Besides, this mist spread all over make it misterious and magical. And those architectures are so interesting and attractive. All together is a really impressive view and your shot is fantastic!

I like the amazing effect that offers us the fog in this nice landscape, surrounding his hills in order that they look like islands.
The contrast between the scale of gray of the fog and the alive colors of foreground is very strong and has a good aesthetic impact, I like it.

auf Deiner Insel gibt es diese Nebelinsel, die herausragt. Das Licht ist daher wahnsinnig unterschiedlich, gut eingefangen. Weiter nach hinten wirkt es schon etwas fantastisch, nicht von dieser Welt.

What do you mean by Malika Express is no more running? In november we went from Mandalay to Bagan with that company and it didn't look unsafe to me.

Lieber Andreas oder soll ich Leo sagen ... Du kannst die Finger nicht lassen von diesen "Inseln im Nebel", und wie ich das verstehen kann! Ich bin mit einer Kanadierin zwei Monate durch Sued-Ost-Asien (auch durch Burma) gereist (damals war ich 21 ... ups ... und meine Eltern sind geflippt). Meine Reisebegleitung hat mich tagtaeglich um 5.30 h geweckt, dann gings los auf den Markt, zu Sonnenaufgaengen ... ich bin ihr jetzt noch dankbar - ich haette nur die Haelfte gesehen. Dein wunderbares Bild hat mich daran erinnert. Barbara.

What a contrast, you have to spend 6 hours in with a noisy motor boat to get here; guess you can't sail?? A real masterpiece: the fog surrounding the temple and partially covering the forest creates a special atmosphere. I like the way the colours are well saturated and the stupa stands out like an island, like your title says.

A photo which resonates with mystery and ambience. The swirling mist, the colourful structure on red earth, and the additional towers beyond, all come together in splendid fashion. Although it seems to violate the rule of thumb, the central red structure being centred does not seem awry; but rather seems to work. This is first rate, Leo. A treasure.

Beautifful fog surroung that hill, with this strange conical building at the top. The light on the hill top and building is bright and provides very nice colors, compared to the other parts of the image. But the depth is also very good since the lanscape is clearly visible in the background.
