In Asia, where a lot of cows are kept, it is not uncommon for them to be kept purely as dung machines, to produce fertiliser, not to eat. I caught this gentleman ferrying such a load and took the shot from a small footbridge that crossed one of the many canals of this region.
In reponse to those asking why so dark. I think it is due to the scan. I am currently travelling and just have a random CD to show people so i do not think i photoshopped this version. The slide, shot on velvia is super crispy and has good tone. feel free to PS it

Nice photo. I like the angle of the shot and the fact that we see the effort on the row of the man at the front as well as the water splash. An interesting daily life story from a country where nothing is lost compared to our wealthy countries.

Looks really dark in the thumbnail, but I'm glad I clicked - great choice of dark tones, and very well timed to capture the rower's stroke.
I believe cow dung is a valuable source of fuel in some areas where not many trees grow for firewood.

Hi there, the last place I travelled was Myanmar so I have a soft spot for it & photo's of it... however, why is this photo so dark? What time was it taken? I adjusted the levels & the photo came up so I could see all the detail? Is there a reason for it being so dark?
In response to Andy, not surprising they use dung for fuel as most of the trees have been logged for the Japanese & British markets!

I like this daily life shot a lot. I don't see a "dark" issue; the water is dark and a nice contrast with the well lit boat and people, the paddle at the back is certainly well lit. The splash of water from teh paddle and the man looking at us are strong points. the topic is interesting and informative in the best TE spirit.
