I suppose that all of us know fantastic Leo's photo of Mrauk U. I admired it so much, it is fabulous and like from fairy-tale. Difficult to believe it is real. So I dreamt that one day I would see it in my eyes.. When my friends and me decided to go to Burma I was sure I would go to Mrauk U. My friends were not convinced but I just had to go there. Quite strange thing was that I could not get any information about the flights to Sittwe. In some travel agencies they told me there were no flights or not every day. Then when we were in Inle Lake my plan was in danger because all the places from Heho to Thandwe were booked. I was very worried and sad. But it ended well. We almost wanted to change our plans when suddenly got a call they had tickets for us. We went by plane to Thandwe and Ngapali Beach. There we could book the tickets for morning flight to Sittwe on the planned day. After paradise days on Ngapali beach we went early morning to Sittwe (one hour flight). Already in the airport we had an offer of a private boat to Mrauk U. The cruise lasted five hours. On the jetty the girl from the hotel waited for us with a taxi. Soon we were in hotel, easy!! In hotel they told me that behind it there is a hill with good sunset view. So in the afternoon we climbed the hill. It was it! I recognized the spot. I made some sunset photos but was not quite satisfied. The next morning, early, when my friends were asleep, I went to the hill again for the sunrise. I was alone there and I stood exactly at the place Leo made his photo. I was so happy, I fulfilled my dreams!!
usually I try to find my own POV. Of course, I have many photos from the hill and Iąll post maybe later other ones, but this time I specially prepared it to look similar. I hope you like the story, would be inspired by it, and the photo:).
So, to get to Mrauk U the only possibility is by air and boat. The land road is forbidden for foreigner. And besides, the road to Yangon takes two days. There are flights from Thandwe to Sittwe (and to Thandwe you can go from Yangon or Heho). Then there are some boats on the river Kaladan to Mrauk U. The place is remote. There are only five telephone lines, so all people share them with extension numbers. The electricity is only in the evening and in the morning. No Internet connection. But it is worth all the trouble.

Excellent color and sharpness.

I remember the shot of Leo. This one is too excellent with the fog which give a particulary athmospher. A superb view to a astonishing and mysterious place.
Have a nice Sunday,

faktycznie widok jest cudowny.Znakomite wykonanie. Poranna mgla nadaje calosci unikalnej, troche "mistycznej" atmosfery.Jeszcze raz gratuluje pieknego zdjecia.

what a lovely story! Good thing to be stuborn! And marvelous TE world to let you discover the earth. You were rewarded by the mist which gives a stunning effect/

It is really like a fairt-tale. Magnificent photo! Beautiful colors and composition. I should also start dreaming to visit there some day...
DarkoG (8) 2011-12-18 2:50
nice interesting place. well composed, nice photo. I think that this photo should be a bit softer (looks like a bit over sharpened), to bring out mist more stronger.
snunney (92542) 2011-12-18 2:54
A beautiful image with a lovely mystical atmosphere. Well composed with the stupa placed just off centre. The brown tones of the stupa make a fine contrast with the surrounding vegetation. A very interesting not about your travels as always.
PaulVDV (25589) 2011-12-18 3:00
Now there are two pictures of Mrauk U that will make people dream of visiting it.
I remember the picture of Leo. I have visited Myanmar during a month in 1997 and honestly in that time I had never heard of Mrauk U. I think then it was inaccessible for foreigners.
The picture really looks like a dreamy world and it was certainly worth the effort to go there and to get up very early.
Attractive composition with the different horizontal layers.
Best regards, Paul

fascinating landscape you captured.

this is so beautiful, love the light and colours here that are so attractive and appealing. The mist adds that air of mystery and magic. Stunning!
Enjoy a peaceful Sunday - regards Brian.

kolory i kompozycja.
Fis2 (92169) 2011-12-18 3:28
Zdjecie jak namalowane.
Dobry kadr i swiatlo.

Ciao cara Signora IF
What a magical photo of this magical place. It is so satisfying to read your Note, I am so happy that you achieved your dream to photograph this enchanting place. Wonderful colours, the mist is so beautifully suggestive. A real work of art, congratulations, you must be very proud of this.
Royaldevon (34735) 2011-12-18 4:04
Good Morning Malgorzata,
I really enjoyed reading your notes and felt the sense of fulfilment that you had experienced. What a wonderful fairy story! From your photograph,
all the troubles were worthwhile!
The shot tells it all: enignatic, romantic, mysterious, a place that most of us will only experience via your incredible shot.
My warm regards,

w ostatnim komentarzu do mojego zdjecia napisalas "Klasyczne dośc ujęcie, ale..."
No to pomyslalem zajrze do galerii emki zeby zobaczyc jakie to one nieklasyczne fotografie pokazuje.
No ale ja akurat jestem z tych ktorzy rozumieja potrzebe dzielenia sie klasycznymi widokami ;)
Bradzo urokliwy nastroj.
Gratulacje i milej niedzieli,

Brawo! Piękna pamiątka z Twojej podróży.

The picture look wonderful and the view is great.Very interesting effect obtained with the fog in back of the temple.
mauro61 (52855) 2011-12-18 4:54
mayjayne (5140) 2011-12-18 5:12
I do agree that travelling internally in Burma is not as easy as in most south east Asia countries. The flights are rare, and if there is, only once a day and very early in the mornings, and quite pricey as well.
I love your picture, but feel that it is a little over saturated? Also, with the early morning mist, the picture should be softer, and more dreamlike, as in Leo's picture. Nevertheless - great shot achieved with great pains !!
danos (92602) 2011-12-18 5:14
fascinating the view of this dreamily place with the light fog to spread among the woody area, with the stupa to dominates on the foreground, completing the breathtaking scene.Excellent presentation.
BennyV (15017) 2011-12-18 5:52
Somewhat less sharp that Leo's version, but more colour and your shot has an excellent mood to it. Mission accomplished!
Sergiom (70616) 2011-12-18 5:57
lgir (7267) 2011-12-18 6:44
very nice POV with a pleasant atmosphere made by the pixelation of color.
bema (26407) 2011-12-18 6:48
think Leo will like this similiar one too, when being back at the end of the month..
for sure a great place, and worth o get up there on that in the early morning..
have a great week, see you soon, Bernd

Fantastic dreamlike capture,
Thanks for sharing,
Jeppo (17645) 2011-12-18 7:44
they didn't know you a practically a tank that cannot be stopped!
you have to go there...and you did it
holmertz (47100) 2011-12-18 8:01
Well, I thought I had seen this before...:-)
This is a kind of view that could be photographed an endless number of times, of course. The morning mist among these hills is marvellous and it is very interesting to see the small changes in the vegetation in the six years since Leo's photo. Now we'll just wait and see if you will also receive 606 points. I think that is not possible for anyone any more.
PS thanks for a very interesting note too.
serp2000 (42552) 2011-12-18 9:24
I just remove one's hat... Outstanding masterpiece. It looks like a paint picture. Yes, I remember these place on the Leo's photo too.
My compliments! TFS!
Gigidusud (18723) 2011-12-18 9:30
This picture is fantastic,i like it!
saxo042 (37730) 2011-12-18 11:40
A great picture, nearly as good as your inspiration photo:)) A very special place, that´s for sure. The morning mist covers the green forest and the pagoda is excellently captured. But I don´t think there are enough members left on TE to give you more as many as 600 points now...
jjcordier (79289) 2011-12-18 22:26
RhodieIke (11744) 2011-12-18 23:08
Hi Malgo, I have read and followed your blog on this scene and its fantastic to view it and share your excitement and presence in this country and this particular scene from Leo which inspired your trip. Well a super photo you have captured of Mrauk U. Fantastic colours, mood and management and presentation. Glad you fulfilled your dream. Tfs,Cheers Iain.
cargus (10017) 2011-12-18 23:21
patdeph (35748) 2011-12-19 3:08
I have loved your story very much, and I love your picture. There is not exactly the same light than on the Leo's picture, but this is as wonderful.I can't imagine that there is a better POV,it's so beautiful from here.As you,if 1 day I go there,I will try to find it too.
Bluejeans (64251) 2011-12-19 5:22
Ola Malgorzata ,

Ciao cara Malgo,
well back home! :-)
Truly amazing this place, isolated from the world, difficult to reach, but it's certainly worth to visit. I believe that this is one of the most beautiful place in the world, and your wonderful picture confirms it. You have done a photographic masterpiece, BRAVISSIMA!!!
Ciao, buon martedì!
Il Generale ;-)
ikeharel (65205) 2011-12-20 5:49
I like the title, Malgo, and the scenery itself, that looks as an expressionist-painting's.
Wonderful colorss in compo. the smoke/fog added
to the ambiance, and the overwhall place on jungle is quite impressive.
Buenas tardes ( no mistake - just felt to say in spanish).
abmdsudi (48769) 2011-12-20 23:59
The temple on the hill can be perfectly seen, and the surroundings are covered with the mist, letting us concentrate on it. This is a superb dreamy feel picture! Have you made any PP to enhance the image, I feel slightly over saturated to reveal the true colorst The bright brown/orange of the temple stands out against the surrounding so superbly. A very good picture. Well done
Angshu (56740) 2011-12-21 20:23
Oh Yes...what a place! I dreamt of Leo's picture as wll, wishing I can see the same with my own eyes..I don't have a clue when that dream will become a reality! I consider you a doer & fulfiller of your own dreams...my deep respects!
The early morning mist creates an aura around those stupas which makes these pictures amazing. My dream lives on! Look fwd for more pictures from your trip! And need I mention?...I loved reading your note
Hope you are doing well!

I am sure when Leo returns he will love to see this replica. So you also stayed at versali guest house:) This time next week I will be back there, thanks for the lovely reminder.
adores (42267) 2011-12-22 15:04
So you have been there! How lucky:))!! The atmosphere of this place is really unique. I like the shot and I'm glad you posted it. Very good colours and pov! (guess almost everyone remembers Leo's photo)! A wonderful place this one!
leo61 (0) 2011-12-23 2:05
Haha I know your POV.
I see nothing has changed there.
Merry christmas from Bangkok,

Ciao Malgorzata, great view of fantasic place, fascinating misty atmopsphere, splendid light and colors, very well done, my friend, Merry Christmas to you and your family, ciao Silvio

Very fine image Malgo, mysterious, almost otherworldly. Nice to have one's wishes fulfilled so on that note I wish you a happy Christmas and a 2012 in which your dreams may be realized. Pozdrawiam. Klaudio.
ellelloo (6572) 2011-12-25 11:38
It's great that you were able to make your dream to become true. It's a fantastic shot, very beautiful and having a magical mood, where the morning fog plays a big role. A great note as well! TFS!
Merry Christmas to you!
s_lush (16134) 2011-12-25 14:33
You were lucky to visit such an exotic country, as Myanmar, and take such a fantastic picture. I like your photo of this unique place even more than Leo's one. The unusual landscape, wonderful natural and architectural features and special atmosphere of the place are depicted by you perfectly. Excellent job!
Best regards and very merry Christmas to you!
rigoletto (34279) 2012-02-05 11:10
I read your note with a big smile on my face, and was really happy for your dream coming true. In Europe everything goes well with plans, when you have booked things, you do most of the things you planned. But in Far East, i guess things are much different, most of the time depending on your luck, tihngs develop spontaneously. And i congratulae you on your devotion. This is the power of TE, the story is this: How Leo's photo made you dream, and with determination how you realized it.
