Photographer's Note

I suppose that all of us know fantastic Leo's photo of Mrauk U. I admired it so much, it is fabulous and like from fairy-tale. Difficult to believe it is real. So I dreamt that one day I would see it in my eyes.. When my friends and me decided to go to Burma I was sure I would go to Mrauk U. My friends were not convinced but I just had to go there. Quite strange thing was that I could not get any information about the flights to Sittwe. In some travel agencies they told me there were no flights or not every day. Then when we were in Inle Lake my plan was in danger because all the places from Heho to Thandwe were booked. I was very worried and sad. But it ended well. We almost wanted to change our plans when suddenly got a call they had tickets for us. We went by plane to Thandwe and Ngapali Beach. There we could book the tickets for morning flight to Sittwe on the planned day. After paradise days on Ngapali beach we went early morning to Sittwe (one hour flight). Already in the airport we had an offer of a private boat to Mrauk U. The cruise lasted five hours. On the jetty the girl from the hotel waited for us with a taxi. Soon we were in hotel, easy!! In hotel they told me that behind it there is a hill with good sunset view. So in the afternoon we climbed the hill. It was it! I recognized the spot. I made some sunset photos but was not quite satisfied. The next morning, early, when my friends were asleep, I went to the hill again for the sunrise. I was alone there and I stood exactly at the place Leo made his photo. I was so happy, I fulfilled my dreams!!
usually I try to find my own POV. Of course, I have many photos from the hill and Iąll post maybe later other ones, but this time I specially prepared it to look similar. I hope you like the story, would be inspired by it, and the photo:).

So, to get to Mrauk U the only possibility is by air and boat. The land road is forbidden for foreigner. And besides, the road to Yangon takes two days. There are flights from Thandwe to Sittwe (and to Thandwe you can go from Yangon or Heho). Then there are some boats on the river Kaladan to Mrauk U. The place is remote. There are only five telephone lines, so all people share them with extension numbers. The electricity is only in the evening and in the morning. No Internet connection. But it is worth all the trouble.
