Photographer’s Note
Mrauk U, literally translated means monkey's egg, but I could not find out why. While now a sleepy village, not so long ago it was the capital of a reasonable sized empire where Portuguese, Dutch, and French traders rubbed shoulders with the literati of Bengal and Mughal princes
It is well worth leaving the warmth of your bed and equipped with a torch, climb the highest point in Mrauk U, to wait for the sun to rise.....

Wow Elaine!
I see exactly what you mean about the similarities my Devon image has with this one. So much atmosphere in this one thanks to the mist and the wonderful golden hour light. Great emotion.
Cheers!

That's a heartbreaker picture, Elaine! I love this view, recognizable between thousands, the hues are splendid, delicate, with the fog. The wildness and the elegance melted, that's an enchantment! You were very lucky to visit this place! And you brought back a wonderful picture. Congratulations

Hello Elaine,
I know this scene and have seen it before as there are many good pictures of it here on TE, but I didn't know Mrauk U means 'monkey's egg'. Good choice of title & I've learned something again. So thanks are in order.

Hello Elaine,
I have seen this view before on TE, but it's one of those rare sights you can watch many times without getting bored. It must be quite an experience to be there. The early sun and the lingering mist are perfectly captured.
Congratulations on getting across the 10 000 threshold, even if it happened one or two days late.
Best regards,
Gert

Dear Elaine
I've seen & am fascinated by Mrauk-U, the more I see it. I had even made plans to go...unfortunately it's coming out to be a bit expensive. The mood is awesome & I think it's the Bandoola monastery on the right. This place is a dream & I would like it live it one day!
Best Regards
Angshu
I never knew about the ‘Monkeys Egg’ part. Have you read the book called Glass Palace by Amitava Ghosh?...It’s about Burma

Elaine ;-)
Heel mooie sfeervolle foto...
Groetjes,
Henk

Oh wow Elaine, this is a beautiful image. The light is perfect here and I love the way it lights up the temple. The mist also adds a great touch. A romantic and evocative shot, Myanmar at its best.

I love these kind of shots and I wonder why every time I see this view it's always foggy. :) This is indeed a dreamscape. And the mist is perfect for creating an incredible atmosphere. Great morning light as well.
