Photographer's Note
****
I am on the crowned mountain.
There are happy monks.
Men who look for their way.
Women who meditate.
And children lost in their thoughts.
They are there because they followed the movement. Because everyone there will find wisdom.
The child did not move.
I wondered which wisdom it was necessary for him still.

A lovely moment well captured. The expression on the child's face is full of interest and I like the way the background has been well blurred so as not to distract from the impact of the child.
Great work, PHIL

Cordialement,
Francis

Hi Bertrand,
Beautiful light and a great facial expression. There is a kind of halo around his face but does not really bother me. Colours and composition is very good.

Hi Bertrand,
I don't know whats so special about the light in Myanmar, they always make the portarits appear so good, both in your pictures as well the recent additions by Leo. Love the way the thoughtful kid stands out from the shallow BG.

Salut Bertrand

I cannot understand those children. They are always so vivacious and active, such that there are dedicated modes in our cameras for taking their photos in action. And sometimes they look so deep and thoughtful that one can think they are small prototypes of philosophers. I don't know what is in his mind, but he seems like lost in meditation. Light conditions and f/5.6 create excellent sharpness and DOF, and the blur is also symbolically effective, as if refering to the "out of this world" state of his mind. So, this is beautiful. TFS,
Cheers,

Bonsoir Bertrand,
This is a truly beautiful and endearing portrait. You have captured the young boy's soul, no wonder there an atmosphere of forelorn sadness. the image is sharp and the colors vibrant.
There is one aspect of the photo, beyond the technical prowess, that you have achieved intuitively, placing one eye of the subject (in this instance the right eye, on the left side very close to the the center-line.
In my book, 'Math and the Mona Lisa,' integrating elements of art, science and mathematics, where Leonardo serves as a foil, I pointed out a 1998 discovery by the British born neuroscientist/art lover, Christopher Tyler, living in San Francisco. In studying patients in which the right and left hemspheres had been surgically separated (for treating epilepsy), Dr Tyler discovered that in almost all great portraits the centerline passes through (or very close) to one eye — not the nose. This is true in all three of Leonardo's portraits of women (including the Mona Lisa), it is true in all of Rembrandt's magical portraits, even of many portraits done by Picasso. This is a principle never taught in art schools -- the great artist intuitively zooms in on one eye. It may have been more than intuitive with Leonardo, however. (I am a physicist/artist and Leonardo was quite simply the best ever to combine these seemingly disparate fields.
In any event, your portrait of the young boy is superb.
Warm regards from Virginia, USA

Bonjour Bertrand,

A beautiful and tranquile capture Bertrand. You captured the expression of this boy in a great way. The shallow DoF is a must here. The compo and tonality is also spot on.
Have a fine weekend,

Bonjour, cher Bertrand,
Magnifiques couleurs.

You had good light and chose the prefect aperture to blur the bacakground so all our attention is on the child. It seems like an expression of sadness you captured on her face. Good work.

Bonjour Bertrand,
What a quality portrait, simple this is perfect. The expression on the child's face and eyes are extraordinarily, also the blurred background care for a very well composition.
My compliments to this one.

This is a wonderful portrait of the beautiful, pensive child. The perfect selection of DOF places the child with people but allows him to stand alone in the portrait. SAJ, Pat

Bonsoir Bertrand,

A beautıful portraıt, Bertrand. The lıght, sharpness and DOF are perfect, but ıt ıs the capture of thıs chıld lost ın hıs thoughts that makes thıs so specıal. It's actually a nıce change to see a portraıt from Myanmar wıthout the tanaka paste on the face!
Cheers . . . Davıd
