One more photo from my archive. I still can post some older pics before a new supply :).
Nyaung Shwe is a town a few kilometers north of Inle Lake in the Shan State. It is the tourist hub for visiting nearby Inle Lake. Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery is just a short walk north of the town and is well-known by photographers for its unique oval-shape windows which serve as eye-catching frames when novice monks stand to look out. It’s over 150 years old and sits on sturdy stilts. Living there of course, are monks, but most are boys in training, here to learn about their religion and to see if they might fit into the monk lifestyle. Most of the monks have a cat as pet.
Of course, in the evening, I went there to make such a shot. But the monks, instead of learning and posing from these oval windows, were busy with shaving and washing and they have fun with it. They saw me walking around with my camera, but paid no attention. But finally, when I asked, some boys went into the monastery and stood in the windows. But it was already rather dark and the photos were not good.

It looks like everyone is having a good time except the one being shaved. Great capture. I really love the light that brought out the saffron colours.

Nice and interesting !
For the kid (his head just been shaved) must it be quite painfull but the one at left with whit cup in his hand seemingly enjoys the torture !
TFS and have a nice weekend

Bonjour, chère Malgo,
Excellente prise de vue de la vie quotidienne. Le sujet est de qualité. Bravo pour la réactivité.
Image qui a toute sa place sur le site de TE.
Très bonne journée.

A daily life image that tells a story. I like the framing and the unassuming 'poses' of the boys. Also, the the excellent light and colours.

I think this will be a far more interesting shot than one of boys peering through windows. This is real life! It is a delightful shot of these young boys doing what most young boys hate doing! I'm not so sure that the boy being shaved is enjoying any part of it!!
A lovely angled shot with the low evening sun lighting up the scene.
Have a lovely Sunday,

Don't tell me that you haven't got a new supply:) your archives must be so extensive!
The little novice being shaved looks as if he isn't having a good time, while his peer look on with a smile.

Trully an intriguing photo from the daily life of the monks, malgo, not an easy going, to my humble opinion.
Fine taken the scene on photo, face expression and the surrounding well conveyed the simplicity of their lifestyle.
Have a nice Sunday afternoon,

A nice set of photos showing daily life in a monastery. There is nothing solemn or sacred here, just ordinary kids living ordinary lives. More fun than performing religious rituals - for us and probably for them.

OK, no pictures of young monks in a window. Instead a brilliant series of the real daily life of young monks in a monastery.
These pictures are great!
I love the fact that they do their own thing completely imperturbable.
And kids are kids, whether or not they are a monk.
Best regards, Paul

A fine colorful and lively scene and I am glad to hear the children were having fun, as the one crouched down looks a little upset. Lovely light too, an interesting capture. This is a kind of place I would love to see some day

On dirait qu'il lui cherche des poux dans la tête. Pourtant ils n'ont pas de chevelure trop abondante ou se cacher.Une belle photo ludique ou les plus petits plaisirs en groupe sont appréciés.

Interesting monastery scene, foreground of red robe monks, then laundry and tropical foliage.
Thanks for sharing,
PS:"What is Scandinavin height?"
In my case it is 6 feet 4 inches tall...

ladny reportaz w trzech obrazach z dalekiego kraju. Fajnie uchwycone scenki. Swoja droga - nudne to zycie mnichow. Ladne kolory.

This is a very colorful photo showing a carefree moment in the life of these monks. Well seen and captured!

Ciekawa scenka z zycia mnichow. Te czerwone habity sa niezwykle fotogeniczne.

A superb daily life scene of the ovice monks in Burma. Looks similar to Thailand only the robes are burgundy colors instead of orange. Good sharpness and well framed and composed with excellent saturation. Tfs!

Ciao Cara SIF
What a beautiful, interesting and funny shot. Even monks need haircuts, probably more than we do. I love the rich colours and the graphism that the young makes make, scattered around then boy getting the hair cut. Great shot, nice work.
PS: Sorry I have been itchy-feeting myself, but mostly for work, so have had not much time or internet to play on TE

I've posted several photos of this monastery, including one in this same place, only here they are more:)! Always a fantastic scene to see, at least for us, and they seem really amused. Very good daily scene!
