Photographer's Note

Le lac Inle s'étend sur 22 km de long et 11 de large, à 875 m d'altitude. On y rencontre des pêcheurs Intha, habitants des 17 villages contruits sur pilotis. Ils sont réputés pour faire avancer leurs bateaux à fond plat en se tenant debout sur une jambe, l'autre enserrant une pagaie, ainsi ils ont les mains libres pour utiliser les nasses qu'ils enfoncent lentement sous l'eau transparente et peu profonde à l'endroit où ils ont repéré le poisson. Puis à l'aide d'un genre de trident ils piquent dans la nasse afin de faire remonter le poisson qui se trouve pris au piège.

Inutile de préciser, je pense, que je suis tombé sous le charme du Lac Inle

The people of Inle Lake (called Intha), some 70,000 of them, live in four cities bordering the lake, in numerous small villages along the lake's shores, and on the lake itself.
Most transportation on the lake is traditionally by small boats, or by somewhat larger boats fitted with outboard motors. Local fishermen are known for practicing a distinctive rowing style which involves standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. This unique style evolved for the reason that the lake is covered by reeds and floating plants making it difficult to see above them while sitting. Standing provides the rower with a view beyond the reeds. However, the leg rowing style is only practiced by the men. Women row in the customary style, using the oar with their hands, sitting cross legged at the stern.

I don't need to say that i fell under the charm of Inle Lake, or do I ?

Hello Patrick,
the title is very accurate, the man looks like covered in gold beacuse of this amazing light. The result is splendid and makes the simple scene very special. I like the composition and DOF. Nicely blurred background makes the subject more outstanding.

Cropping this to a panorama was an excellent choice, Patrick, as the whole shots seems condensed vertically; the man crouching, the sleek shape of the boat, the short reeds, the low angle. The angle in particular is great as it adds shadow and texture to the water. Great DOF, as others have said, and really nice light management throughout.

Une image très douce, des couleurs pastels, un éclairage (du matin??) très pur
Bravo, en plus la scène est intéressante
Je regrette seulement que le personnage regarde à l'extérieur de la photo, mais il était sans doute impossible de faire autrement ;)

cette composition excellente est pleine de vitalité et elle nous montre la spontanéité de la simple et tranquille vie dans ce lac, avec le pêcheur à son travail quotidien.
Le format panoramique fonctionne très bien, j'aime le dynamisme de la scène, ainsi que sa lumière et ses belles couleurs.

the sunlight is a bit harsh, but still a beauty of a photo.

The side lighting is delightful picking out the detail so superbly and the blurry bg has further enhanced the strength and vividness of the subject. Un beau gros plan sur ce pêcheur et son filet de pêche spécial.
Les couleurs chaudes de l'homme, de son bateau et du réflet dans l'eau démarquent le sujet encore mieux dans ce fond bien flou.
