Inspired by Gert's photo Donkey business, this is the scene from the cattle market in Shan province in Myanmar.
I am not sure what an animal it is. Buffalo? Bull? I suppose that they are used as drought animals.
There are many photos here on TE from Inle Lake and the acrobatic leg-rower, but only a few from Kakku. it is not as remote place as Mrauk U but going there is complicated. as it lies on the land of Pa O people, you must apply for a special permission and have a pa O guide. There is no public transport so it is necessary to take a car with a driver. But this all can be done and you are rewarded with amazing views, splendid landscape and stunning architecture of 2000 stupas.
On our way I saw this cattle market. There were only locals and my group. I was delighted to see Pa O people, friendly smiling to us.
suddenly I felt nostalgy for exotic country.. so I dig up in my disks.
Thanks Gert, I think you are right, this should be Zebu.
Zebus sometimes known as humped cattle or Brahman, are a type of domestic cattle originating in South Asia. They are characterised by a fatty hump on their shoulders, drooping ears and a large dewlap. They are well adapted to withstanding high temperatures, and are farmed throughout the tropical countries, both as pure zebu and as hybrids with taurine cattle, the other main type of domestic cattle. Zebu are used as draught oxen, as dairy cattle and as beef cattle, as well as for byproducts such as hides and dung for fuel and manure.

Hello dear Malgo,
On thumbnail I was thinking "what a speedy Te friend" from UK to Myanmar ! But it's from 2011.
Even so a perfect TE entry both photographycally and with many interesting notes enriched.
Go ahead with your "nostalgia" ! It's allways good to dig on old CD's !
TFS and best regards

I got the feeling that you were inspired by my recent photo, but i wasn't aware that you had seen it :-). Local businesses of all kinds are interesting, in fact I find almost any kind of human activites in foreign cultures fascinating, as you already know. This is a really nice picture with a lot of discreet activities of gestures and looks. I'm not very good at identifying cattle, but I would guess this is a sebu, judging from the hump and the large piece of skin hanging under the throat.

Ciao e buona serata

A stunning image, with a great attraction and charm with the presence of so many people around the buffalo, I guess that being a market .... doing a transaction of sale, with viewers. Beautiful background with trees and mountains in the distance.
Good sharpness and light, with a nice color.
Have a good day.

Definitely not a buffalo, but intimidating none the less. :) I love this shot, it shows the real side of life, the local side in fact. Far from anything touristy, this really helps give us a look into the every day workings of the land and its inhabitants. A great collection of people, each one with a different stance and expression, there's sure a lot to take here, and it's done with clarity and detail. very well taken, presented, and informative. Have a nice day ahead Mrs. Itchy. Take care.

Ladna niepozowana scena.

The clarity and colors in this are amazing! Such a beautiful daily life scene, and one so exotic to my Irish eyes, the whole composition is perfect, as is teh body language of the people.
And I am impressed to finally see a Zebu! I have heard of this creature many times before, but had never seen one. A first for me this rainy Friday afternoon :)
Thanks as always

hi gert, oh sorry, malgo :)
how could you make such a gert photo, it is incredible, even the colors are from his palette! reading how you reached to these desolate places... it would be an incredible task for me. i guess i will always stick to big cities and maybe take some guided tours to some further destinations, but i can never have the guts to get there on my own. lucky you, but we both know that being lucky is not enough, one needs to be a bit itchy as well to get to travel to those distances :)

I remember this place so well! A good daily scene, I like the way you framed them and the cow in foreground. The faces and the clothes are great!
