Nyaungshwey, the resort city near Inle Lake, can boast soccer players in full garb, on top of its famous leg rowing fishermen, as attraction!
In Inle lake, all skills are in the legwork... ;-)

Luko (13978) 2005-06-23 10:51
Oh yes, quite a funny picture, reminding me that film showing a Tibetan monastery during the '98 world cup.
The most funny part are the flipflops he plays with : he should set some spikes on their sole for a better grip ;) ...
edit : I see claude and I look at the same films.
pridel (233) 2005-06-23 11:06
bnallama (3763) 2005-06-23 11:11
This is a lovely shot! Great light, contrast, DOF and ACTION. Well shot!!!
sn00zie (2384) 2005-06-23 11:11
really candid shot. fantastic lighting and timing. love the expression on the young monks face :)
shirgold (2479) 2005-06-23 11:12
Excelent capture you got there!
The details of his robe, the sandals and the concentration on his face are creating a great composition.
Seems like it's afternoon light that creates the intense reds?
TFS - Shir
MiguelP (14466) 2005-06-23 11:26
Splendid Herve... Wonderfull motion picture: It´s possible to create full mouvement photos, you have find out. Just I suggest you to put the reds levels a little bit down. Take care.
Roly (2024) 2005-06-23 11:46
Beautiful action shot, very well executed and presenting a striking image. Not the most usual soccer outfit, for sure! This image would be a good answer to the question “Why there are much more people shots from Asia with respect to Europe and N America on TE?” Cloning out the pole on the right side of the head might be a good idea.
sayzey (2358) 2005-06-23 11:48
Haha great action photo! I cant imagine he can run very fast without those flip flops falling off!
It must also be alfully restricting playing in that long robe!
Still it is very interesting how a different culture can enjoy a game we in Britain play in such different attire!
apache (1426) 2005-06-23 11:57
I would say this is a very nice composition. An excellent action shot. But i cant help but think that this is a bit over saturated and the colour balance is tilted over to the red side way too much IMHO. I may be wrong but what do you say?
Timmok (802) 2005-06-23 12:16
Hopefully for them, the Inle Lake FC is better than Paris Saint Germain ;o)
I can't believe that he can play with his robe and mostly with the flip flops! One day in Brazil, I saw a kid doing pretty well in skateboarding with only flip flops, it was kind of a schock to see this.
Thanks for this picture, now we know football can also be played dressed like this, and also at the Inle Lake ;o)
AmiBe (6042) 2005-06-23 13:16
eugeneahn (298) 2005-06-23 13:46
Great shot. Once again the monastic way reminds us that we don't really need Adidas, Nike, no-chafe lycra and whatnot to enjoy life.
DLM (6479) 2005-06-23 14:23
Hi Herve, great shot,a real gem.wonderful colours and skin tones.
hamster (104) 2005-06-23 14:28

eleparc (24063) 2005-06-23 17:17
Hervé depuis quand tu me piques mes moines? tu as profité de mon petit passage par paris pour te les approprier?? haha! en tout cas tu as eu raison;-)
hdl (6995) 2005-06-23 17:59
The monks are a very grateful subject for pictures and most of the time they result in very good photos. I have seen a lot of them, but this one beats them all in originality. Watch out Beckham! Very good shot.
Elric (560) 2005-06-23 19:29
A perfect photo! The motion, the light and shadows, the contrast and sharpness, the framing. Bravo!
rbcy1974 (20758) 2005-06-23 22:19
quelle superbe cliche.
kevinos (7379) 2005-06-24 10:55
An absolutely superb short, Herve. The colour is wonderful and the dynamic angle of the composition with the ball acting like a full stop to the downward thrust of the figure works so well. The blurring of the background (done in post processing?) is just right. Few people realize that monks and novices are very different and that novices get to have a lot of fun as well as studying. Monks, of course, are not permitted to play games.
bullabulla (3488) 2005-06-24 19:08
nerve (10231) 2005-06-27 5:32

kikvel (4784) 2005-07-24 15:18
I missed this one, and I am so lucky to finally enjoy it!
This is so nice, when I first saw it I laughed out loud! Very nice capture, full of emotion and mixed feelings: sports, religion, at the end a beautiful picture!
schapman (0) 2005-08-23 16:49
Fantastic image that captures a great moment. There is a mixture of emotions on the boys face ranging from concentration to pleasure and delight in the game. I get the feeling that the boy was so intense in his game that he didn't notice he's being photographed.
GUSDE (41) 2005-08-29 2:24
funnies picture, i like it....
fireflyz (2097) 2005-08-29 20:26

marietom (34607) 2005-09-16 15:32
Excellente, cette image !
Ca fait penser au film "la coupe".
ngythanh (8525) 2005-09-17 21:08
Look, he got the ball.
Look again, you've captured the happiness and attention on his face.
I only have one word to describe your photo: "successful".
aznegrao (10296) 2005-10-03 19:07
Gosto desse ângulo, ele da muita força a composição. Gosto do impacto visual criado pelas ótimas cores. Bravo Herve. Um abraço.
santosh (304) 2005-10-18 15:59
All I can say is "Wow". You have done a great job on this picture. Lovely colors, great composition and the subject is very interesting. Very good shot.
IaKoop (819) 2005-10-19 16:46
I love this shot. The concentration on his face is wonderful, and there's something about playing football (soccer) in flipflops that is always appealing. Great work!
paolino (1024) 2005-10-29 12:39
i like this snapshot: it's a good catch, full of colors, of life and of contrast.
Well done Paolo
quillo (11850) 2006-03-04 19:12
Hi Herve, I like the sensation of movement and imbalance, the expesión of the boy and the texture of the dress are a true enchantment.
Congratulations by this work.
just4iris (792) 2006-03-29 13:23
GOod composition, action, POV, light, contrast:
everything is OK. Also the film, of course!
saamb (1008) 2006-04-07 3:11
Myanmar is full of tourism attractions. also there have many thing for photographer. but this photo is capture of a very nice scene of a orient boy that he should be a monk! but we see him in playing football. it is very intersting. i like this same photos. with warm colours and nice moment.
david (3992) 2006-04-26 3:35
there's a movie called "the cup" ... it's a movie that you would love. it's the story of a tibetan monastary during world cup time. the young monks want to watch the world cup so they convince the old monks to rent a satellite dish to watch the games ... awesome movie.
i really love this shot though. not many times you'd see a photo like this. ever. great capture!
saguzar (862) 2006-04-27 16:34
Curious indumentary and shoes!.
The world football championship begin next june, and that guy is training... maybe he has a dream, playing in the future for his country, but Myanmar never participates, some day they could do it.
Very nice moment captured, colors, and details
fijiphil (1355) 2006-05-04 16:35
Critiquing your work is difficult... all the photos are of such high quality. This one is my favourite though I think. Brilliant.
yigalco (372) 2006-05-24 17:55
You can use this photo as a advertisement for the 'Mondial'
Great catch for great photo, I can feel the action with his body position and the game love by the expression on his face
Discaciate (129) 2006-05-25 16:16
WHAT A PHOTO!
The frozen action, the budist like child and the action with the ball. The slightly out of focus background does a wonderful job of making us focus on the boy.
The colors are all great and both vivid and natural looking. The RED/GREEN contrast is a classical, and almost always works like a charm.
An powerful capture done by a very skilled photographer.
Great job man!
pastadog (13068) 2006-05-26 3:38
Hi Herve - a most delightful shot, that gave me the idea to create a theme. Someone in FIFA should notice! Regards, Daniel
nbj (2089) 2006-05-27 13:41
I thought I had had my share of monk shots, but this one is really good. You caught him at a good moment, I think. I like the movement of his body, it makes him look very graceful. Colors are good and warm. Well done!
Ramy (773) 2006-05-29 13:53
This is a marvoulse shot of this monk playing football, its a good picture to make someone smile or even better laugh! lol
I hope there will not be a team in the future that will have there dress like this little monk! :)
Well done! Regards, Ramy.
Mistral (15402) 2006-05-29 15:08
great dynamic shot!
As Luko already said it's great to see him playing with flip flops!!!
A smile and compliments for the beautiful images!
tatadalou (3975) 2006-07-06 14:05
ruisc_pt (10133) 2006-10-22 4:16
This is a frozen movement that speaks.....
andreng (265) 2006-11-30 1:59
A excellent shot of the action and good DOF as well. The evening light was just nice on the subject and giving a light shadow as well. Definitely the robe will not hold in a professional football game, one pull and everything comes off but one may still win the game though by surprising the opponent.
jonathan_hart (21270) 2007-05-27 12:36
dareco (17134) 2007-08-18 0:25
A fantastic action shot!! The 'nice jersey' color looks perfect against the background. TFS
everlasting (14023) 2007-09-28 2:26
Good action shot, Herve and a fine image of happier and more carefree times.
Vague (301) 2009-12-02 6:00
Great picture! Fascinating subject, steepness and great carde! Amazing colours....
fabianoleite (9162) 2010-09-26 20:31
Excellent depiction of universality of sports. The movement was very well captured and it's good to see such different costume with the ball between the feet. Great framing and blurring of the background. Congratulations and regards from Brazil (always appreciating good soccer!)
iainsp (2626) 2010-10-16 10:35
"and he takes the ball on to his left foot, rounds the defender, ... cuts back in to the middle of the field... beats one man ... then another ... switches it to his right and let's fly from 20 metres ... g-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-l-l-l-l-l-l, golazo, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal".
Yor phtogrph is so good that I can read the thoughts going through the subjects mind. Congratulations. Iain.
kaliman (205) 2010-10-21 9:07
