Magic Inle, a photo from Shan, North

Photographer's Note

Le lac Inle s'étend sur 22 km de long et 11 de large, à 875 m d'altitude. On y rencontre des pêcheurs Intha, habitants des 17 villages contruits sur pilotis. Ils sont réputés pour faire avancer leurs bateaux à fond plat en se tenant debout sur une jambe, l'autre enserrant une pagaie, ainsi ils ont les mains libres pour utiliser les nasses qu'ils enfoncent lentement sous l'eau transparente et peu profonde à l'endroit où ils ont repéré le poisson. Puis à l'aide d'un genre de trident ils piquent dans la nasse afin de faire remonter le poisson qui se trouve pris au piège.

The people of Inle Lake (called Intha), some 70,000 of them, live in four cities bordering the lake, in numerous small villages along the lake's shores, and on the lake itself.
Most transportation on the lake is traditionally by small boats, or by somewhat larger boats fitted with outboard motors. Local fishermen are known for practicing a distinctive rowing style which involves standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. This unique style evolved for the reason that the lake is covered by reeds and floating plants making it difficult to see above them while sitting. Standing provides the rower with a view beyond the reeds. However, the leg rowing style is only practiced by the men. Women row in the customary style, using the oar with their hands, sitting cross legged at the stern.

HI Patrick!
The classical from inle and you catched this fisherman in a good pose.
I like the brownish sunset tones but would have cropped the top of the image to avoid the overexposed sund and have some more panorama style.

Anyway, great shot!
This year I have not seen inle lake.I arrived by plane from Kyaing Tong with a delay of two hours in Nyaung Shwe when it was allready dark.Nearly every hotel was booked and I ended up in a 80 $ room, the most expensive hotel I ever had.And while driving by taxi through Nyaung Shwe I have seen more tourists than locals on the streets,so many new neon signs,restaurants and internet caffes...... so the next morning I escaped by train to Kalaw.

giusto il titolo. Hai ragione Patrick a parlare di magio quando si assiste a simili spettacoli nei quali la bellezza della natura si integra perfettamente con la presenza dell'uomo.
Uno scatto magico nel quale il controluce è stato perfettamente gestito dando luogo ad una silhoutte che appare delicata nel suo galleggiare sulle acque appena increspate di questo lago incantato.
Ottima la ripresa ricca di dettagli ed esente da difetti, una delle più affascinanti del tuo viaggio nel Myanmar.

Je me répète mais j'adore ce sujet des pêcheurs birmans, rien que ça me donnerait envie d'y aller tiens ! Excellent cadrage, la silhouette du pêcheur se détache parfaitement sur cette lumière diffuse chaude.

Shooting against the sun can result in total failure or great success, you have successfully created an excellent photograph of this fisherman through backlighting. I like the placement of the sun and the refelction on the water. Very well done, tfs.

Ces pêcheurs Intha sont vraiment une source d'inspiration pour les photographes. Ta version à contrejour est très intéressante, même si je regrette un peu que le pêcheur se confonde un peu avec la végétation de l'arrière plan.

Hi Patrick. The Inle Lake is an inexhaustible source of inspiration - especially for photographers. Also your photo today shows the aesthetic that is typical of the lake and the Umgebgung. But not everyone takes good photos from Inle Lake. Your photos are the exception. The monochrome coloring and the great lighting are phenomenal.

Hello Patrick,

I like the quiet, peaceful atmosphere of this scene. The contour of the rowing man against the banks of the lake and the mountains looks beautiful, especially in the soft, hazy light. The strong reflections add an edge and the timing is perfect with the boat cutting through them.

I really like all your images of fishermen in Myanmar because you never fail to catch similar scene in different way. This one has very atmospheric light and colors and puts me in quite serene mood. The whole scenery looks to me very peaceful and quiet.

Yes, it is a really magic moment shooting into the light as the stretching partially silhoutted subject strongly pop out even more and you have caught it skilfully to offer us a wonderful golden tones and an elegant misty backdrop. Excellent work, this is a beautiful composition with good enough light to get some details on the fg too. Good balancing job. Quality as always, Congrats.

The panorama works well here Patrick. He seems to be gliding along quite fast and making really nice ripples on the lake . Shooting into the low sun couldnt have been easy but you have contained the backlight well

I could not ask for more from a photo. The sillhouettes are superbly exposed and I love the coppery golden light of the sky and dancing on the surface of the water. The panoramic cut is also well-judged, allowing us to focus on this fisherman and the enchanting moment both you and he have created.
