Photographer's Note
Maymyo or May's Town (now known as Pyin U Lwin) was established into a British hill station in 1896 to escape the stifling summer heat of the lowland and it became a stronghold of British influence in central Burma. Located about 70km away from Mandalay on a plateau over 1,200m above sea level in Shan State, Maymyo is delightfully cool and pleasant with fresh clean air the whole year round even at the height of summer and at certain times of the year it can get very chilly.
This very English town is well known for its colonial architecture with large compound and pine trees, eucalyptus and silver-oak abound in town. It is like a trip back in time! The town, was named after Major General James May of the 5th Bengal Infantry stationed here in 1886.
Today, Maymyo still has one of the larger populations of Anglo-Burmese in the country.

Hello,
nicely captured building which colors contrast greatly with blue sky. I like usage of trees to make the composition not only more interesting, but also to frame it neatly. Beautiful colors and good light management.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Abmdsudi,
You have a wonderful eye for unique archtecture, particularly in places we may not expect to see it! ON glancing at this, I would think this to be in the United States due to its warm red brick, but your fine note of course teaches me where it is. I love the detail of the windows on the building too, and the tree on left creates great depth.
Red brick and blue sky work so beautifully together!
All the best

Hello Abmdsudi,
another beautiful example of British architecture in Asia.Love especially the red bricks and the way they contrast with the blue sky.Really eye-catching color combination. But also the composition and framing appeals to me much. The tree in the foreground obscuring slightly the view of the building adds a lot of charm to the whole composition.Superb composition taken with great sense for deatails and quality.I like it!
Best regards

Hello Abmdsudi ,
An attractive red bricked church , that must not be so common in Myanmar . the angle of view is excellent , and even the bell tower is partially hidden by the branches , that works well .

Hello Abmdsudi,
i was in this town 40 years ago. I still remember it fairly well. It was a nice experience, certainly a touch of England but with a very srong Burmese flavour too. The good light means a lot to this photo. It brings out the best of the combination of blue, brick red and green. At least from this distance the church seems to be in a very good condition, which cannot be said of every other building in the country. I was delighted to see from the workshop that those horse-carriages are still around. They are among my most vivid memories of Maymyo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Abmdsudi - These little English enclaves must be fascinating places to visit and I wonder what life was like for the colonial British who lived here. One always has a romantic view of such places which, I suppose, negate the reality of colonial rule. A pretty little church, shaded by the trees and giving no clue as to its Burmese location. A lovely trio of shots. Warm regards, Heave a lovely Sunday Rosemary

Hello dear Abmdsudi
You make an interesting point about the Englishness of this town. I have seen so much colonial architecture in Malaysia, Vietnam and now in Myanmar. Beautiful, and such a contrast to the traditional stupa that we are used to seeing, although they are stunning in their own right. I love the deep colours and the good exposure on the sky. The Circular Polariser has worked its magic here. Excellent note and excellent photo.
Warmest regards

Hello Abmdsudi,
a wonderful picture that describes the architecture and environment with great detail and very pleasing rich colours. The point of view offers us a good idea of this charming building and gives you the chance to be very creative with the large tree in front of the facade; the character of the building is still clearly visible and the slender branches make it more intriguing and fill delightfully the smooth blue space above. The light vivifies the colours deliciously and I also like the suggestive role of the shadows. The picture of the carriage is very interesting and the one of the bungalow is captivating. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania
