Photographer's Note

Myanmar, young novices (boys and girls) on their way to entering the Buddhist monastery. They are dressed up as princes(se)s and, in a big ceremony, driven around town in open trucks. The colours of their costumes are very striking (no color enhancing with PS here. If i understood well- friends of Mynamar correct me if i'm wrong - these children enter for a trial period. They can return home if it doesnt work out. Nevertheless it is considered a great honour for the family if a member becomes a regular monk or nun. I thought the boy's expression very intersting. Its difficult to say if he's a bit sad or very conscious of the solemn moment. One thing is for sure: the woman behind him is definetly his mother.
