Local beauty around Mandalay. Notice she applied THANAKA on her face.
Thanaka is a yellowish-white cosmetic paste made from wood. It is commonly applied to the face and sometimes the arms of women and girls and to a lesser extent men and boys. Thanaka cream is made by grinding the bark, wood, or root of a thanaka tree with a small amount of water on a circular stone slab.
Thanaka cream has been used by Burmese women for over 2000 years It has a fragrant scent somewhat similar to sandalwood. The creamy paste is applied in attractive designs, the most common form being a circular patch on each cheek, sometimes made stripey with the fingers or patterned in the shape of a leaf. Apart from cosmetic beauty, thanaka also gives a cooling sensation and provides protection from sunburn. It is believed to help remove acne and promote smooth skin.
Personally i think it enhances beauty itself because my god, what lovely women there are in this country i must say.

A wonderful portrait shot of this young lady from Mandalay. The colors are quite nice...with soft yellows and browns in the background. And she has one side of her face slightly different than the other...giving her a little distinction...with a soft smile, too. Very nicely done by your here.

First of all I'd like to say I really like your gallery. Lot of interesting photos from the world.
Excellent portrait, it reminds me my visit to Laos and Thailand. The same culture, the same faces.

I am looking at this shot and at your nr two and I agree, Tony -- these are beautiful young women. Of course, the question we must ask is... are the older women beautiful, too? ;-) My answer is that the older I get, the more I find beauty in older women!
