Photographer's Note

Mahamuni Paya pagode south east of Mandalay. An astonishing buddha statue cast in bronze, weighs 6.5 tonnes and reaches a height of 3.82 metres. The statue is continuously covered with gold leaves, except for the face and only by male devotees. Feminists have some work here. Consequent to the frequent application of gold leaves, the coating of gold has a thickness of 15 centimetres. Totally awesome and blinding. No flash used.
