[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
If you suddenly become the center of attention of a few perfect strangers what would be your reaction? What if you are asked to hold something that you have never held before even if it sleeps in the same hut as you do?

This is the same boy. As Darren mentioned, this shot is mostly out of the boundary of T.E. spirit. The reason why it is here is because I am curious to see in the face of the same subject, how each of us will choose to interpret his subject.

Even if it is out of the guidelines of TE, it is still a great photo.
Clarity, composition, lighting, and a likeable subject.
Top marks.
Have you decided where you will travel next? I noticed you were asking on Thorn Tree.
Regards.
Kevin

He looks tough and defiant, although not so much so in real life. More than anything, I feel he was a good photographic subject and the time in that little hut was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Very nice exposure, good use of the shadows. Personally, I think you could do a little more sharpening, but this is a really nice shot.

I have one with him and the dog too.

nice portrait shot. lot of expressions in the face. Good attempt with restricted lighting. well done.

PS: see if you like my WS !

Good shot, I like the use of single source of light. The WS posted by Arnab is good too.

poor boy, will there be the whole serie with him holding different objects? :) the picture has very good light, be he looks already a little bit tired
Why does he never touch his dog? Is he muslim?

You got a catchlight in his eye! something I missed. The boy comes with a chopice of 3 accessories: puppy, palm-branch, and pot. This is puppy, and I think Darren gave us pot. Up to me to show palm-branch... :).

I really am thinking now of Vietnam in February...

You capture a good portrait of him. His expression is hard in ocntrast with the tender look of the dog. I like the composition and the manage of light. I make a smal ws for you. Hope you like it

what you did with the light here is superb. This is a studio class portrait. Couldn't recommend any changes.

excellent shot Thien! the light is superbly mastered and subdued;-) you have captured a very tender moment;-) thnaksd for sharing this photo, i love it! and find it very touching indeed;-)

Thien,
This is an outstanding portrait of the boy and his dog. I like your window lighting without fill-flash (normally if recommend fill-flash). The lighting is very dramatic and the expression of the boy is somber and powerful. I also like the fact that the dog is looking away from the camera. Excellent work!
