Photographer’s Note
This was taken somewhere in the Western Gobi. We had a small camp some 30kms away and travelled here to look at the rocks. While there I walked around and could see a tree in the distance. As it has been over a month since I last saw one, I walked towards it and took this photo. It means many things - lonelyness perhaps, but also a triumph of survival.
I read somewhere that we have a genetic longing for the savana of Africa, and once there where we feel at home. I did not feel this in Africa. But in the dry and desolate Gobi Desert I felt very at home.

this could have been a better photo if you would have used an other composition (tree is to middled here). in general terms i like your view for details, therefore it is a good photo. with my best wishes, valentinos

Hi Malcolm,
I agree with Valentinos: the tree is way too in the middle of the picture and this makes the composition weak. However the subject is very interesting as well as the depth of field.
I made a WS to adjust the composition and the colours a bit, which are too washed out in my opinion.
