Photographer’s Note
The Gobi desert is best described as a gravel and shrub desert, because that is all it is for maybe 85% of it. But right in the middle of the desert is a chain of sand dunes about 50 kms by 200 kms called Khongoriin Els. This is where almost all of the sandy pictures that you see of Mongolia are taken.
This is taken at the top of one of the biggest sand dunes at Khongorin Els at sunset. It was the same night as my "Epic Battle" photo.
As I took this with my wide angle lens, I wanted to have the horizon right in the middle of the shot. All I've done here is crop out some of the sky to push the horizon up a bit, then added the frame.

Great shot! I really love the range of colours you've captured here, and the texture and position of the dunes is perfect - the sunset is beautiful too. If I were to suggest anything I think I might bump the saturation up a little bit, but that's just a matter of taste! I'm wondering about cropping a little off the top? Anyway very well captured :-D

Great shot. Sharp lines, smooth colors, wonderful texture. If you'd have some reflexion, you'd have the perfect picture, all in one. Congratulations.

Splendid landscape Mike! The reflection of sun light on sands is beautiful creating nice textures. I like very muck the red tone of sand. The picture has a good depth helped by the clear sky.
Well done Mike and thanks for sharing!

Mike,
thank you so much for the very useful note on the gobi desert. I've always wondered what part of the desert is good for photos.
The photo itself is beautiful. I love the framing you did on this, it's very soothing on the eyes.
