Hi Guys! I've been away from TE for almost 6 months because of travelling (which I still am!), but I'll be uploading and critiquing again as often as possible.
The sky at night in Mongolia really is something to behold. I've been many places in the world that are renowned for having a clear sky but nothing even comes close to Mongolia!
This is my first ever attempt at a 'star trail' type photo. I'd seen them here before on TE so decided to give it a go. The exposure is ~25 minutes. I would like to have exposed it for longer but I had the camera set to 'reduce long exposure noise' which meant the battery had to last for 50 minutes in total, and at -5C I didn't fancy the batteries chances hence the short exposure.
The reds in the distance aren't any city, it's natural. The nearest city from where this photo was taken is hundreds of kilometres away!
Let me know what you think! :)

Very impressive Lee. You inspired me to try this on one of these days. The composition is exquisite, and of course the result of your artwork ought to be commended. My best regards.

Your long absence from TE due to traveling means that there will be plenty of shots to be posted once you settle down. Good to see you back.
This is amazing as it shows us the rotation of the earth which we don't normally notice when we look up into the night sky. The graphic composition is also very impressive. A little bit of noise though due to ISO200 under low light condition. Since you were on tripod the ISO should be brought down to the minimum.
Still, it is a great piece of work.

I have not try it, but it sure look really interesting, I would love to do it when I have a chance. It's mesmerizing actually to look at. I see your issue, being out there, probably hard to find a place to charge your battery. I would conserved much of it for other shots too.

Excellent star tracks and foreground for perspective.
Long night exposures were easier with older mechanical cameras, so you suceeded with the digital age.
