An outdoor snooker table in Terelj National Park, with 'Turtle Rock' in the bg, from a more unusual angle.
Here's the more classic view, of the same rock:

"Gorkhi-Terelj National Park (Mongolian: Горхи Тэрэлж) is one of the national parks of Mongolia. The Terelj tourist zone has a number of "tourist camps" (Mongolian: жуулчны бааз, juulchny baaz). It is connected with Ulan Bator by a paved road (main road to the East #A0501 Baganuur-Öndörkhaan direction, 37 km from Ulan Bator city center, left turn to the branch #A24, 5 km later road crosses Tuul River and the National park territory begins). The road comes to the Gorkhiin Davaa (Mongolian: Горхийн даваа) pass. Most of the tourist camps and tourist attractions are before this pass. The road then ends in Terelj settlement, which features small shops and restaurants. Terelj settlement is located in the Terelj Gol river dale, approximately 66 km from Ulan Bator city center. The national park tourist zone is formally Ulan Bator Nalaikh düüreg (district) part, the rest (protected) zone begins to the North from Terelj Gol river and is located in Mongolia's Töv aimag.
A small southern portion of the park is developed for tourists, with restaurants, souvenir shops, horses and camels for rent, and tourist ger camps. However, most of the park is undeveloped and difficult to access. Attractions include Khagiin Khar Lake, a 20m deep glacial lake 80km upstream from the tourist camps, and Yestii Hot Water Springs, natural hot springs 18km further upstream. The park also has a Buddhist monastery that is open to visitors. Park wildlife includes brown bears and over 250 species of birds. The Tuul River flows through the park.
The park has many rock formations for rock climbers, and includes two famous formations named for things they resemble: Turtle Rock (Mongolian: Melkhii Khad) and the Old Man Reading a Book (Praying Lama Rock).
Many Westerners were introduced to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park when the CBS reality television program The Amazing Race visited the park in the second episode of its tenth season."

An interesting location for a snooker table! An out of the ordinary daily life composition. Good point of view with fine colours and clarity.
barrufeto_77 (28886) 2007-11-13 0:41
Hahahahaha it's great the people playing without any kind of interest in the rock that there's just behind them.
smarcell (19965) 2007-11-13 0:51
The picture mught not be technically perfect but it is very interesting and original. Very nice capture, very descriptive of the place.
cessy (13647) 2007-11-13 0:57
Very nice capture of these men, Chris, doing snooker at unusual place :)
I like the angle, wonderful composition and colors

Amusant de voir ce grand paysage servir d'aire de jeu de billard ;o)
L'arrière-plan aurait pu faire l'objet du titre tant il est monumental et insolite.
Merci de nous faire partager ces vues.
Ciao mon Ami

An interesting and rather unusual location to play Snooker, Chris. Well found this motive, with an apt choice of the vertical format to include the foreground activity and the balancing rock at the top. Nice shot.
andante (7092) 2007-11-13 2:56
The angle doesn't strike as unusual as a bunch of kids playing pool totally in the open. A guess tha today isthe day for me to find surreal images! Cheers,
riclopes (35577) 2007-11-13 2:57
Hahaha, this is a strange funny scene, Chris. Well composed in the vertical making two pictures in one: the documentary in FG and the beautiful landscape in the BG. From this POV doesn't seem a turtle at all and what a surprise when we see the lateral angle. tfs,

not only a blue sky as something famous (and I am sure a lot more) but also outdoor snooker. Good juxtaposition of the turtle rock and the snooker table and good to have it with some players.
I like the contrasts and colours.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Wonderful combination shot! The top of the frame has the dramatic rock formation, and the bottom has the pool table, setting up all kinds of interesting comparisons and thoughts (natural v man made; ancient v modern, etc.) Great eye to be able to put these two things together!
gneufeld (15890) 2007-11-13 9:05
This is a most unusual and amusing scene with a pool table being used as part of a striking landscape opportunity. Thanks for including the classic shot - sure does resemble a turtle. TFS. Gerald
axiotea (21651) 2007-11-13 10:41
Unusual to see snooker in the open in such an environment with the turtle rock dominating the scene and looking completely different from this angle.
Gerrit (52099) 2007-11-13 13:52
fantastic scene in this incredible place. The combination is realy hilarious.
singuanti (15250) 2007-11-13 19:17
Hey Chris. I like very much the portrait orientation here as it really gets your attention and gives you the best option at framing the scene. The light and sky were both tops. Very nice one Chris.
siolaw (38292) 2007-11-14 0:02
A nice daily life scene, strong light well managed and retaining fine dtails. The vertical framing is well chosen to fit the turtle rock!
ktanska (28415) 2007-11-14 0:12
I like strange combinations. Great stone formation and a surprising place for a game of billiards. I guess dryish climate makes it easier to keep the table outside.
(That's pool, not snooker table.)
vincz (19113) 2007-11-14 0:28
It is funning how many such snooker tables I have seen in the open air while traveling in remote part of asia! This is an excellent picture, true daily life in a unique settings with this rock in the back.
Silvio1953 (148575) 2007-11-14 0:35
Hi Chris, strange composition with strange rock and strange place for biliardo's players, splendid colors and wonderful light, very well done, ciao Silvio

This looks so unreal it seems a scene straight out of a fantasy novel !
Seing that youy did just the right thing, take a picture, and of course it was a good idea to include this 1st class rock background, the two wires could disappear.
Have a nice day, JY
danos (100894) 2007-11-14 1:52
interesting to see, outdoor a snooker table and to play.As i see there is and a second one on the right. But the most great i think,is the shape of the rock above,in the National park..Excellent earthy colours and light make the shot unique.Well done Chris.
jhm (156580) 2007-11-14 3:21
This is the first time that I see snooker playing outside, but the very weather give maybe the happiness.
Also the background with the Turle Rock care for a wonderful image. Colours and composition are very well.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,
jemaflor (100181) 2007-11-14 4:09
Very well seen these two focal points in your vertical shot, an very impressive rocks and these players, original view well framed.
noborders (1010) 2007-11-14 8:59
What an impressive and fantastic place to play snooker ! Your WS is also well worth seeing... Congratulations for this beautiful and interesting composition,
(NB : in west China (Turkestan), they also play pool outdoor, in cities or villages, but never in front of such dramatic sceneries !)
berek (50506) 2007-11-14 11:20

A big surprise to see a snooker table in an unusual amusement arcade, nice daily life shot with the boys playing and the Turtle Rock in the top of the hill. Good POV.
Well done. TFS.

What a shot:) how did this table appeared there:)?
Well cought moment!
The rock is also looking superb!
keribar (43841) 2007-11-15 21:30
Good decision to take the snooker rock ,n the background it gives some depth and becomes ,mmediately a part on somewhere, we know that we are in Mongolia.Perhaps the light is a bit at the top, the same picture could have been even better at a different hour.
Friendly regards - Izzet
bakes888 (18499) 2007-11-17 22:54
Hi Chris. Unusual sight and well captured, its not every day you see a snooker table outside let alone in such a scenic spot. Good colour and composition. Thanks for sharing.
Angshu (56760) 2007-11-18 19:46
Amazing place to lay the snooker table & play it. We remember this rock from your previous post, though from this angle, that unique shape is not evident. An excellent shot, which apart from technicals is an educative and informative one.
gervaso (15827) 2007-11-19 12:33
Interesting place to play snooker, but it must be hard to level the table! The picture has great colors to show this different snooker room!
greg64g (11193) 2007-11-23 2:49
excellentissime, wow a scene of life. i love all these people on all corner like that. like a religious game.
aralda (1240) 2007-11-30 6:05
Unusual juxtaposition of the Turtle Rock and the snooker table. It would suggest that contemplation is a forgotten skill.
gbeli (1970) 2007-12-15 11:00
Beautiful fanny photo from the wide Mongolia.
Nice POV and atmosphere.
nikkitta (17066) 2013-10-17 17:44
Just saw this photo and can t resist to watch and comment it
So plenty of life and original capture, don t know why but snooker is popular in so oriental places, I saw a similar scene at a street in Tibet, also boys playing
This scene has the attractive of the Turtle Rock formation at the back
Great work with vertical appropriated format
Are you sure the white lines are wires, I have lot of pictures ruined by them, I believe they were some natural phenomene
