[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the boatyard at Dhangethi where, at least in the southern part of Ari Atol (known as Alif Alif in the Maldives) they fix and build Dhoni.

Dhoni were multi-purpose boats prior to 1972. However, in 1972, the first tourist resort opened and the need arose to get tourists from A-B and back again.

In the subsequent 35 years, there's been a gradual need to increase the numbers of covered (tourist) boats to serve the demands of tourists.

I've processed this in Photoshop CS3 (I am a clumsy amateur with this programme but trying to improve) and have only done the basic RAW adjustments and applied unsharp mask.

The day was extremely grey, warm and sticky. (200 ISO 1/2 second exposure at f7.1 at 09:55 Hrs in the Maldives is testimony....!)

Hope you like it.

Hi Paul,
An interesting daily life scene on this small shipyard.... the available light is well managed and the thickness of the atmosphere and air itself is well conveyed. Very sharp for a 1/2 second!
Laurent

Hello Paul,
So the Maldives are not just sunshine, palmtrees and turquoise ocean. I agree with you: something can be presented in the best way as if the photo has the original colours.
But sometimes we have to cheat a bit to make a not so interesting scene liver. In my opinion digital photography consists of 80% photograpy and 20% PP work. Tat's why it isn't easy.
Anyway, I like this daily life scene. Very good quality and sharpness!
TFS!
Best wishes,
Marci

Hello Paul,

A lovely shot on a beach in the Maldives. The composition, colors and resolution are excellent.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Nice job with this, Paul. The lighting is nice and even, and the man adds an element of interest, walking between the two boats. It's funny how our eyes are always drawn to the human element in photos. We're kind of like dogs sniffing bushes, looking for traces of other dogs. :D

Interesting, and well-composed!
Gayle :)

In almost all your honeymoon photos the sky is overcast and a little gloomy. It doesn't look like the Maldives I see in brochures. Are you sure you haven't been deceived by the travel agency and really been there, not a different island? )))) The sharpness is good as usual and once again you present a different face of the islands. I like it.
Warm regards,
Fusun
