Photographer’s Note

A Rungus grandfather lies on the bamboo floor tending to his grandson, who is snugly sleeping inside a dangling sarong fashioned like a baby cot on a rope, tethered to the rafter of a longhouse.

Rungus, an ethnic tribe belonging to the Kadazandusun group and indigenous in the Kudat Peninsular are farmers and forest gatherers. They lived in communal long houses and usually trade their agricultural produces in Tamu or weekly fair.
