[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is what we call Batu Kawa Bridge spanning across the upstream Sarawak River. Years ago, before this bridge was built, private sampan ferried passengers across the river. One time, a teacher with students took the sampan which capsized and some children were drowned. This bridge was built using the most primitive ways of manual labor without much mechanical tools or machines by a contractor from India called Larsen & Turbro Ltd under barter trade with Malaysia for palm oil goods exchange. The metal look along the side of the bridge are steel supports for water supply mains pipeline built only recently.

On this noon hour, the sky was blue and the clouds were so interesting for inclusion to this viewpoint. The Kuching airport is not far and you can see the plane ascending after taking off to Kuala Lumpur. After this bridge, the road leads to the western part of Sarawak towards Lundu.

Hello Bill,
Nice contrast between the brown riverwater and the blue sky. The cloud formation is very beautiful and you captured the plane before it disappeared into the clouds.
Regards, Paul

Hi Bill,

The diagonal line of the bridge is an asset to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the mountains on the other side of the bridge. The picture is clear and precise. The quality of the light has a good effect on the colors and is giving a good contrast to them. Have a nice day.

Pierre

Hi Bill,
A nice view on this bridge, with a great sky to frame it.
I like the lovely clouds just above the bridge.
I think a pano format would have been good too :)
Regards,
Marianne

Hello Bill,
great photo with nice contrast, I like the colors, maybe not the color of wather - I would not try to swim in that river :)
The composition is also really nice,
greetings

Hi Bill
Splendid capture with these lovely clouds that seem the cotton's clouds. Good POV and the contrasts are riches and vivids and you could capture the plane in the sky. Nice composition. Well done. Regards, Consuelo

Very nice pov! An interesting bridge, and I love the sky! Very good detail. TFS and have a happy day!

The sky is really impressive and makes a big part of the photo. However, the river and bridge are both beautiful and very well placed in the frame. Well done.
Antonio

PS. tooke me a while to find the plane but I am glad I did it. Nice detail.

Hi Bill! Here you have one clean composition. Excellent POV. It impresses the sky and the bridge it creates a dynamics that is interesting. Good colours well done
Georgios

The colours are as I remember them (chocolate river !), nicely saturated, the sky is wonderful ; I don't find the bridge specially photogenic but what you explain about it in your note make it interesting.
TFS,
Cath.

Hello Bill
Wonderful clouds with the plane about to disappear into them. So sharp. TFS, Marlene

Hi Bill
What a view. Certainly worth more than 2pts. A breath taking capture with this amazing sky and the beautifully saturated colors

Its a well justified composition to have the sky and clouds dominating this view, since there were not much interesting feature in the Fg water. Someone mentioned that there is a bird in flight...must be a huge bird! I think its a Boeing plane. Great work

Alfred

Hello Bill, Beautiful colours in this scene with the sky almost taking all the glory. What is that in the sky, bird, plane no it's superman.
Well done.

Hi Bill,
Lovely capture of this wide span across the muddy river.
The beautiful blue sky with its intricate cloud pattern contrast wonderfully with the muddy river and silver bridge.
Excellent note about the tragic history of this crossing.
Regards, Tom

Hi Bill,
Beautiful tropical landscape, very well presented. I like the bridge cutting the image, but I think that much of charm of the image comes from that amazing sky, with which you cleverly filled most of the image. The low clouds remind snowed mountains, which makes a surprising contrast with the landscape and the airplane above the tanker is a little bonus.
Regards, José.

Very well done. Thank you very much for sharing this photo.
I'll be there next time (in 2009).
