Photographer’s Note

Sabah, an island state sharing the island with Sarawak and Kalimantan down south is blessed with the highest mountain in South East Asia, weepy rain forests and with 40 ethnic colorful and friendly races.

About 20 minutes from Kota Kinabalu is Monsopiad Cultural Village in the Penampang district. About 300 years ago, a tribal warrior and headman by the name of Monsopiad was the Godfather of this village, defending it against marauders and insurgences from neighboring villages.

The village is now a cultural heritage and center for the Kadazandusun, housing artifacts, historical articles and effects of this ethnic, specifically that of Monsopiad and his descendants.

Just before coming into the village, you will hear the metallic cacophony of percussion instruments welcoming you. Stepping just into the courtyard, an ensemble sitting crosslegged inside a shelter marks where the welcoming comes from.

A smile would always greet you. For beautiful doesn't has to be colors all the time.
