With nikon L11 and some tips perhaps from Agoes (using his Canon A640) in KK, you may find yourself picking up faster if you join their trekk to photo shoot. This photo sounds more promising although it has improvement potential, because you recognised the sunrise and its effect on this scene. Many ways to capture it and you will soon find the best way to earn yourself confidence.
For this shot, good to see f/5.6 and 1/2000 to avoid boat shake. For composition, google search 'rule of thirds' and read as a guideline. If you need it, email me and I will send you some links.
KK and Sabah has plenty of photo opportunity daily and you must not miss it. Bring your camera out every time. Shoot more and post them. Practice makes perfect.
