[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I now proudly present to you 'The Sea Bajau way' of living.

This is how a Sea Bajau's home looks like on Maiga Island. It looks like camping experience? What if coconuts drop on it? No kitchen, no living room, no bedroom, no window, it really resembles a tent? It would be a completely different experience to stay in there for a night or two - the Sea Bajau way. Tell me what you see or think.

Very friendly people, no hostility to visitors or photographers. Really a wonderful place. Very educational trip, after which I begin to learn more things about Sea Bajau. Thank you for viewing. Regards, Bill

p/s Thanks Rabani, I have updated to Sea Bajau as intended just in case viewers may not be aware of such defined words. I chose this photo in lieu of sharper shot that I kept.

Hello Bill,
An interesting way to dry the washing! Very good daily life shot; all it lacks is somebody hanging the washing out. Very good colours and clarity. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bill,
Very interesting. Where there are palms, there are this type of construction. Here in Northeast of Brazil, we have a lot of these and this scene seems to be the same.

Hello Bill. I guess there is no big deal for hundreds of homeowners in California never worry about paying their electric bills on time. It's not because they are careless; it's because they live in new "zero-energy" homes that produce as much electricity as they consume. These people share the same luxury of living free and easy. When simple living in nature is taken to the full extent, personal and systemic transformation ensues. For me, it might take a bit longer for the transformation. Well, I guess a week there will do me good. :-) Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Dear Bill,
It's as if someone had pulled just about everything under the roof and suddenly, the roof found itself standing on the ground instead.

But Bill, Bajau and Sea Bajau is two different things in Sabah.

The Sea Bajaus are pretty distinctly different from Bajaus, which is generally referring to the land Bajaus. Even the language is different somewhat with just a smattering of words sounding and meaning the same. You need to refer to them specifically as Sea Bajaus and not just Bajaus or else the rest of the land Bajaus would be "offended". :)

Another distinct difference is their traditional way of lives. Sea Bajaus until the recent years were maritime nomadic and seafaring while the Bajaus are land based, work as farmers, coastal fishermen or anything on land.

Sea Bajaus don't walk as much as Bajaus generally do, just as Bajaus don't spend their time on boats as much as Sea Bajaus. Sea Bajaus either lived on boats called Lepa Lepa or beach side temporary shelters like you have in your photo here. Bajaus lived on land.

Sea Bajaus in Semporna probably never rear goats, sheep and cows or see a horse let alone ride one which is a common thing for the Bajau especially those living in and around Kota Belud. Bajaus touristically are referred to as The Cowboys of Sabah whilst the Sea Bajaus as, well Sea Bajaus.

Thank you for visiting my 2nd village home in Sabah.

Hello Bill, I like this shot for it's colour & composition But what I like the most is your note and the comments of Jusni & Bani,
Beautifully done.
Thanks

Hi Bill,
Interesting composition of the unique house built with simply local material, nice to see people hanging and drying their clothing by old method, thanks for sharing.
* But I think this image is a little blur.

Hi Bill,

It is amazing photo. I like this hut very much. I wouldn't like coconut failing on my head but to spent the days in such a place would be fantastic. I prefer such huts near nature, with friendly people around than noisy expensive hotels. thanks for sharing
