Photographer’s Note

Sometimes you just got lucky.

About two hours down south from Kota Kinabalu is Klias Wetland, a mangrove forest reserve with a scattering of primate colonies such as proboscis monkey, silver leaf or langur and macaques.

The main arboreal attraction is the pot bellied brown fur red face long nose proboscis monkey or commonly known locally here as Dutchman. Usually in a small colony of two groups, these arboreal attraction can be seen in the late afternoon on the trees along the Garama River.

Beside the primates, on your boatride back after sunset, you would get to see what the locals here called "Christmas" trees. These are trees by the riverbank which are lit up glowingly by thousands of fireflies.

In the photo, the fiery sunset sky bidding farewell viewed from Garama River.
