Photographer’s Note
Whenever I see a paddy field, I remember someone who shoots Kodiang and its expansive countryside of paddy fields.
While paddy field in most places in Malaysia is synonymous with wide open country with dots and dashes of scarecrows and guard houses, hill or dry paddy doesn't has that agoraphobic real estate. Another difference is, hill paddy uses a lot less water than wet paddy.
Hill paddy is a once in 3 years love affair with the land and almost always it's not always horizontal. Hill or dry paddy is grown on hillside and in this photo, a polygamic coexistence in a coconut plantation. A common agricultural feature in the Kudat peninsular, the coconut country of Sabah.
It takes about 6 months to harvest and the land is left fallow for up to two years before the next planting. During the fallow period, the farmer grows corns, tapioca or just leave it to Mother Nature.

Assalamualaikum Rabani,
Thanks for the useful note. I never new that Padi Huma is a once in three years affair. One thing good about this paddy is that (I suppose) they are organically grown. I know it tastes better with different aroma especially when the skinning is being done manually.
Do they still carry out the winnowing process manually there. I would love a low angle capture under the process of winnowing shot against the sky. Go on - get one and post one here for us to share.
Wasallam,
Jusni

What a nice close up shot of padi. I have never got so near to any padi field. The coconut plantation as a backdrop is a nice contrast.
TFS.
p/s Heard from Bill that you are joining us in March. Look forward to meet you.

Hi Bani
Up close to your subject and present it in sharp details. Rice and padi is such important staple for Asians and you have something more on your mind at the time of shooting?
I like the low angle and closeness here.
TFS, bill
