One might be wondering why this man chose to be in the water instead of paddling his sampan. The reason is that cross currents in between houses in this inundated area prove to be too much to handle. Since the water is just chest-level, he might as well jump down and let his body (and leg) strength defy the water flow!
Currents in a monsoon-caused flood which originates from the river have 'life' in themselves as it is a part from the the whole waterway 'network'. In fact, the flood in this area happened without heavy rain in the area itself. It was the rain in the interior areas which filled the river more than it could take.
Notice the buntings on the top of the picture. They are actually the logo of Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party which rules the state of Kelantan. The white circle signifies full moon. Could it be the moons' gravitational pull too which has caused the flood to this extent? ;-D |

I like this shot took on the same level than the man. This give the feeling that we are on the water too. Good DOF.

Very nice shot, Ewan, and you got his expression well. The light is great and the dirty boat as FG helps to impress the flood chaos. Very dramatic and journalistic photo. well done. TFS

Hello Ewan,
How are you keeping up with the flood? Hope things are much better now. Good clear shot of this flood scene with crispy details of the subject.
