Photographer’s Note
Langkawi pasar malam (night market), each day of the week settles on a different place of the island.
It's mostly a food market where you can eat all sorts of delicacies, I specifically like the sweet crepes with sugar syrup and corn inside (can a m'sian member remind the name of these...) they are great for snacking while shooting around the area.
I found that shy little boy tucked between empty rottan baskets : he's the son of the sugarcane man who for less than a ringgit will press a tasty drink out of a few sugarcanes. I never drink the juice because of the ice in it but like to munch directly on the sugarcane, which is almost as refreshing and safer for my belly.
I've loaded this one after I saw Simon's image taken with a Blad, for the pleasure of medium format photography and the wonderful textures it can provide.
Not a Blad here but the even bigger 6*9 Fuji also carries a nice lens.

Nice pattern in the background which enhances this lovely soft smiling face. Great picture. That's true we feel a great range of textures and wonderful tones.

Nice portrait. I like very much, specially portraits with children. In this one, the focus is not in the child, is in the baskets and I think the shot is taken to much hight. I'm sorry for my english, and I hope you understand. But I like very much this one.

Although you've missed the focus here, I like the overall effect of the photo because of the way the patterns of the basket and the shirt balances out the composition. The spontaneity is apparent and that is another element I like about this shot.

Great capture with a LOT of mood. The position of the child in the frame is perfect. A photo which speaks volumes!

Sugar - definitely, I must say that I find this one too sugarsweet for my tastes, I'd rather have a beer ;-) Apart from that there's not much to fault, well maybe I would prefer a simpler basket-only background, and - ohh, whats that - a little bit of white at the bottom between the photo and the first black frame, and since I sense that your aim was (among other things) old-world B&W perfection, I'll have to stick to a light green one, sorry.

Hi Luko, i really like your composition here, the way the boy is leaning and you POV enhance the dynamic feeling. Good B&W work.

Hi Luko
I have been to Malaysia too
And believe me I remember all the good food (rotis in the morning sate in the evening)
I like this shot Luko for the little boy and his smile
I like this shot for the background with the Rotan baskets
But im disturbed by the generator in the front
A little bit to the right with out the generator would make this very good shot a perfect one
Well done
