| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Studio Photography is not as difficult as you might think or imagine. Maybe you have been in one and seeing equipments with so many switches and knobs, white umbrellas and lightings,it might look so daunting just to shoot a subject.
A photo studio is the one place where you have manageable control of light AND shadow placement. You need the light to accentuate certain features of your model and the shadow or the lack of light, the depth and the mood of the composition. A photo studio is definitely not a place where you go gaga, brightening everything up.It is a place where you use both light and shadow, to make an impression of your subject.
As a studio photographer or thinking of becoming one, you don't just shoot your subject. Talk and communicate with them. You need to get to know them well, and the most important thing of all, to get them to feel comfortable with you. Only when they feel comfortable with you, only then you can be "oblivious" to them.
The cool thing about digital camera is, you can show your subjects the first few good shots of them. Usually when they see how good they looked, they get more comfortable with you and probably even go stratospheric with their gestures and creativity in the next session.
The first thing is, get to know your choice of studio equipments, and how your camera behaves in the studio setting. Then, get your models to be really comfortable with you and the studio. Lastly, go have fun. Only when you feel good and having fun, creativity comes creeping in.
