Photographer’s Note

This is a common view of a 'sunday market' in Tambunan. It is widely known in Malaysia as Tamu (ta-moo). The tamu is held twice a week in Tambunan, that is on Thursday and Sunday. On other part of Sabah the tamu are held on different day such as on friday for Donggongon Penampang, every 1st day of the month for District of Ranau, and on wednesday for other district.

In the tamu one can find almost everything that you need (to meet human necessity) and the best part is.. its very cheap! If you are passing by, try to stop and buy some food, vegies or fruit, you will be satisfied, no need to bargain at all. The ginger in the photo is sold at RM 1 only, where in the city such as Kota Kinabalu, that will easily be RM 4 - 5 :~

This is quite different from night market or 'pasar malam' as the tamu will last for few hours only during day time. Most Christians go to church on sunday, therefore it is an excellent oppurtunity for the local to sell thier produces as well as for the customer to shop varities of necessity for the family.

The old women here patiently waiting for customers to buy their gingers and other farm produce.
