Photographer’s Note
She was afraid.
The kind of fear coming from something or someone, you can't get away from. The kind of fear that grows in magnitude, to every each step you make, as you gingerly step closer to your object of fear. And every step you make, it gets heavier the next. You can't back out or step back. Either you go through that fear or face the wraith of someone else, who are pushing you into this. Onto this man.
It was the first time she saw the man. He was being so friendly and accomodating, as if he knew her. Yet she hardly knew him let alone understand what he was saying to her. And there were things on the man's hand, on his body and especially on his face, gripping her with white cold sickening fear. He is the kind of men, most little girls wouldn't want to see and a lot less to be with. And yet, unbelievably her mum and dad, was pushing her to within his reaches. The man smiled as he started reaching for her hand...
She is from an island village, far in the eastern water of Sabah. A small island just an afterthought ballpoint dot on the map of North Borneo. But a small island with laidback white sandy beaches, lazy inducing breeze with waltzing coconut trees and sweaty afternoon. Still, it is remote enough. So remote even people in the nearest coastal town, never heard of it.
So remote that most of the young islanders, have never seen a doctor or being treated by one before. It was that remote.

aiyo mister Rabani, this is a nice corping of a 'tight' one.. i like the dark skin tone. the DOF was good, the expression was just exact i should say. and i like it! maybe i'll be trying some other tries on portraiture.. but its really quit hard to get them in the lens... you know, once they see the lens, their natural expression losses... maybe you have some tips?!~
TFS and Regards,

You captured her puzzled look well. It is pretty apparent that she was curious about you and your camera, but she gave you what she had anyway.
Nice for a book or magazine, maybe a little dark for a hangable portrait...a small thing you could play around with. The workshop version seems pretty nice.
Great Job.

very touching looking and the note of course...
you caught a very natural moment...it is hard to do it with a camera most of the time..the machine itself destroys the natural look in people's face but she was so far away from knowing that probably..

Hi Rabani,
Love the way you have brought out the expressions of the little girl whose face is nicely framed by her hair. I have done a WS just to try out something new with this.

Rabani,
A haunting one...
I can imagine here feear.so touching, so true...
I am amazed by your balance of the shot. I never imagined you could take such perfect one hand held!...
Then I see it is an IS USM, but still what good can a camera or lens do without such skill hands & warm heart.
Thanks,
Prem.

the picture is very intense and the impact of the note is terrible. Poor doctor, so difficult to perform his job. Actually, I feel better since I read the end. Very good example of a brioght note in order to enhance a pict.

Rabani: I think you'll get alot of attention with this fine pic. Sharpness and expression are spot on. Expertly cropped too... bye for now... caleb
