Photographer’s Note

The Malaysians especially the Moslems celebrated Idil Fitri last week. This photo was taken 2 days before Hari Raya as Malaysian commonly called this festive celebration, started to fill shopping malls and alleys bazaars looking for sales, from clothing to other celebration paraphernalias. This clothing bazaar is along the alleys of a shopping complex called Segama, in Kota Kinabalu.

On the right a mannequin in white, dressed in the the obligatory clothing called "telukung" usually worn by Moslem women during their prayers.It covers the body from head to toe only leaving the face to be seen.

Interesting cultural picture. The perspective of showing the market(bazaar) full of people and the colors of the clothing is great. Good details and excellent use of light for an indoor picture. Good work Rabani.

You have a nice rich mix of colours and textures, Rabani.It conveys vey well the atmosphere of a shopping alley in Malaysia.I feel that it is a pitty that the foreground subject has her back to the camera, a face in that position would have added to the interest.This is wonderful rich colour without the use of flash but with good sharpness.

Hi Rabani, very much catching the mood of a lively multicultural KK market here. Good low light work, and you even managed to spread the DoF with f8, it must be brighter there than it looks, though I know that camera handles very high ISO well.

I take this opportunity to wish you Selamat Hari Raya. Did you get my e-mail? I believe I dropped by this bazaar once before a long time ago. A typical bazaar scene where most local photographers will give a pass. You must have looked like a tourist with a camera there. You have managed to capture very natural colors there. The AWB I believe worked perfectly. The colors from the florescent came out nicely completmented by the yellow tone from the foreground from another light source.

Something to help you our for your 9M if you are aiming for it. p.s. (the 400d is in storage until i next use it maybe this weekend for kingfisher shooting with 9W2XO)
