It was something like a Sunday Fair that day in a small town called Tambunan. The thing is, if you like to see how lively and colorful Sabah is, go find yourself a "Tamu" to walk around in. It is busy, noisy, smoky and you see just about everyone from the surrounding villages, coming over to the fair.
The young Kadazandusun mother was looking happy and cheerful. It must have been good to go out to see friends and to get supplies. Those coming over to this Tamu, are usually in their best dress and putting on a smile for everyone.
She was carrying her baby in a babysling. This one a bit contemporary but still maintaining the old fashion sling way. Usually, instead of the soft fine netting you see here, it would be the "sarong", fashion around the body like a baby sling. Not as technically upbeat as the baby backpack but no baby has been heard complaining not sleeping comfy, nestling in one.
To take photos during Tamu, take your wide to potrait zoom lens and set it to aperture priority. You might like to set your aperture to the fastest your lens could see, to throw off the background as much as it could. You wouldn't have enough time to compose "perfectly" too. For this photo, I just have enough time to candidly shoot her but got the electric pole "sticking" out of the baby head as well.

You got a very nice candid shot of mother and child Bani! The shaded spots add to the composition nicely. Way to go!

i like this. sharp as always, with good colors and light. very useful note.
baby slings are uncommon in most parts of India, while in hilly states and north-east, it is seen often in traditional style.

Very nice capture, Rabani, it does bring back lots of memory in the Tamu, it is after all where everyone else goes to meet up and socialise. The cheerful mother does put a smile on my face, the colour look great too, you have capture a happy mum and a happy baby who is peacefully asleep in mother's arm. Well done

A really tender and frank shot Rabani. She was caught unawares and natural. Great lighting too.

nice composition, please note the position of mother's body, dynamic and very expressive. the lines of the arms and the tilt of the head speak volumes about the mood of the image. good light and nice color. two points, and I realize that we can not get everything, and considering the limitations inherent in this shot, you have done very well indeed. 1. if only the top of mother's head could be included. and 2. the light pole detracts from the mood. Still, an excellent image indeed. happy (mother's body language and smile) and tender (sleeping child). very well done Bani...

One of your beautiful Sabah pictures, no matter if they are from ceremonies of from more ordinary events, like a market. Great expression of the woman. Regards.
