Shooting the Sunset Photo

Photographer’s Note

I was resting at Cenang beach in Langkawi, when I saw this tourist - his back against the sunset, shooting the beach houses instead of the beautiful sunset behind him. I wanted to tell him to shoot the sunset instead, but didn't, since I thought he knew what he was doing. So I just clicked away, took my shot and included him in the photo. When he turned his back to shoot the sunset later, the sun was already gone, and I could hear him saying he missed it! Too bad! I hope he was able to capture it the next day.

Langkawi comprises a group of 99 tropical islands lying off the north-western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Her idyllic beaches offer carefree sun-filled days and quiet evening strolls. Langkawi offers her visitors many beautiful areas to visit - beaches, caves, parks, lakes and many other wonderful sights.

Hi Alford,
Very nice sunset where you captured a wide array of warm tonal ranges, I like too the orange halo around the sun, it gives a bit of Saturn feeling !
The person is interesting too, do you know his pseudo on TE, knowing that we'll see the other picture, you shooting the sunset !!!

The dark silhouette of this photographer against the beautiful red sky is fantastic, Alford, the sun beam on the water, and the splendid calm sea give a very nice composition.

Oh well, at least his bad observation got him included in a great photo and, apart from the wonderful colours, warm glow and fantastic atmosphere of the picture, he's the star of the show!! Really good Alford, it was a terrific idea to include him in it, I wonder if he'll ever know he's famous? Ha! Well done

Quit a colorful sunset, Alford, with a good counterlighted sihouet, sharp, the white line around on top still possible to clone away. Good capture !

Very nice scene you captured here, Alford. The photographer's silhouette is well included in the beachside sunset view, and the color setting is nothing short of stunning. The position of the sun in the frame is well chosen, too. You did beautiful work on this one.

what strikes me as most noteworthy is the incredible clarity in this shot. and the way the sky transforms from blue to a dark gold is awesome. the sharpness in the water is spot-on too. awesome shot!
