Photographer’s Note
The very popular Penang ferry is leaving the Weld Quai in Georgetown for the port town of Butterworth at the horizion.
Since October the Penang government has taken over the ferry service Penang-Butterworth from the Penang Port authority which was not able or unwilling to revamp and expand the ferry service. More often then not would be ferry passenger were left waiting far too long, sometimes more then one hour, for the next ferry. But also motorists were left waiting endlessly, especially at night. There was no shortage of demand; however the service was largely neglected. As a public transport the Penang ferry cannot generate huge profits. Consequently fares have to be kept low. In 2008 the Penang ferry operation produced a loss of 21 million Ringgit – a bit more then 6 million US Dollar. There is a lot of room for improvement which have to be seen in the coming months.

Hello Urs,
I used this ferry a lot during my school days. It was very efficient and didn't have to wait long for the next one. Before the Penang bridge was built it was the only way to get to the island & back. Still a romantic mode of transportation. Most people I know now use the bridge in the background there (good inclusion). Good details & natural colors. Regards. Latiff.

Hello Urs,
Good action as the boat is speeding!
I notice the funny little cabin at the end of the pier, and wonder what that is for...
An effective composition with a strong diagonal!

Olá Urs, excellent diagonal holding well the ferry for me ;-) It makes me think I still have time to catch it. I want to get in, mainly because of the its colors. Everything else in the picture has too much light, so the ferry stands out nicelly.
have a nice sunday,

Namaste Urs,
brilliant shot of daily life. Nice colours and great sharpness. Nice composition. The running ferry and the water flows from it looks nice. Light is perfect. Very well framed with vertical mode with a vast beautiful sky. Very well done.
Congrats.
Have a nice sunday.

Hi Urs,
Beautiful vertical presentation of this lovely yellow ferry heading out to sea.
Love how the blue sky compliments the yellow ferry and the steel dock makes an excellent lead-in to this fine image.

Hallo Urs,
Kompliment! Die begleitende note ist ebenfalls sehr interessant!
Herzliche Grüße aus dem tiefgrauen Schleswig-Holstein,

Dear Urs
You created the perspective well with the diagonal of the pier and the wake of water left behind by the boat. The yellow and red colours of the ferry definitely makes it attractive. Nice effective composition...I can't get over the name of the place...so very English!
Best Regards
Angshu
