Photographer’s Note
Takob Akob Falls is one of the two iconic falls roaring inside Maliau Basin, the Lost World Of Sabah. The other falls is Maliau Fall which is about a day leech infested jungle trekking away. Thundering at 30m high and with a width of about 20m, you could hear its roar 500m away through the thick montane forest.
Takob Akob Falls is within 2 hours trek from Camel Trophy Camp. The first hour is a relatively easy montane forest walk but in the 2nd hour, descending to the dropzone takes some doings with the wet and slippery trail traversing the ravine's steep side.
Maliau Basin is neither a walk in the park experience nor it is walk-in public park. You need to make registration and reservation a week prior to your visit and be prepare for a tough jungle trekking experience.
Maliau Basin has 2 accomodation facilities at different locations. Maliau Basin Studies Center has almost all the urban creature comforts while Agathis Camp is pretty basic with platform sleeping canvasses and electricity is only available from 6.30pm till midnight. Showers and toilets are also available.
For further infos and websites about Maliau Basin, just google "Maliau Basin".
