Walking through the Kuching waterfront along the Sarawak River with Alfred in late afternoon sun, I explored the building architecture around the area. This golden flower caught my attention to present it as abstract because of the color in the sunlight. I will let you decide if I did the right thing by inverting this roof just to make it a different than normal view, as if you were lying down on the floor and looking backward and upward to see this.
It is the roof of the soon-to-be completed [delay again to Sept2009] State Assembly Legislature building ask DUN as know locally. Below this bell shaped roof will be many scaffolding platforms staged for the construction work, so it gave me an idea to avoid those distracting elements and show only the top portion. Thank you for viewing and offering suggestions for improvement.

wow, what an amazing and original idea! This is something simple that you turned into something more..original!
Very well done, also, beautiful colors!
Have a nice day,
UlfE (14641) 2009-04-16 10:48
A great idea to turn it upside down. When I saw the tumbnail I though it was the bottom part of a ballon. I really impressed by the clarity and the wonderful colours. A great job. TFS and have a nice day!
bobocortis (15946) 2009-04-16 11:02
An excellent pov and a great color coupling.
High sharpness too and smart up/down idea.
Budapestman (82620) 2009-04-16 11:03
Splendid shot of this building with impressive composition and beautiful colours. I like the idea and the effective realization. Have a nice evening!
Royaldevon (28449) 2009-04-16 11:16
You fooled me!
I thought this was the bottom of a hot air balloon!
You have heard the saying ' Less is more!' here it is epitomised.
I think the invertion was a great idea.
We look more focussedly on it as a abstract image.
Good textural details, strong colours and sharp focus.
Silvio1953 (119639) 2009-04-16 11:25
Ciao Bill, original upside down with splendid golden colors, wonderful idea, very well done, ciao Silvio
MarianneS (15338) 2009-04-16 11:29
It was a great idea to turn the photo: it enhances the graphical impact of this roof, as you don't immediately understand what you are looking at.
Colours are superb, an original view!
jemaflor (83014) 2009-04-16 11:35
original result well seen and taken, good shot with a perfect sharpness.
BelCan75 (2201) 2009-04-16 11:46
Now that's an interesting photo! I like the idea very much, but the execution is great as well. Beautiful light, great colours and such nice contrast with the sky. Great work, I really like it!
phwall (6785) 2009-04-16 13:43
Looking at the world from a different perspective, a very fresh approach indeed. Inverting the image has certainly produced a more dynamic and interesting visual. The definition is excellent so too, the light.
A creative interpretation done well.....excellent idea.
xavshot (69835) 2009-04-16 13:45
belle idée. j'aime bien le résultat. Cela met en évidence le graphisme et les couleurs de ce toit. Beau travail.
paura (47166) 2009-04-16 14:52
well composed artistic job here. Colors and sharpness are excellent.
fanni (14377) 2009-04-16 15:23
frankly speaking, I have kind of mixed feelings concerning the "inverted" view: which would be the "right"? It's just another point of view and opinion! Yes, when we lie down and look upward at the object which is near us.... this is the exact effect - like with trees, for example.
This looks like a very sharp needle. I also very much like the combination of colours: golden-yellow and greyish-blue.
and have a nice weekend :)
Charo (51210) 2009-04-16 15:41
Very good idea to reverse the picture, makes it an original composition as it is airborne.
I love the golden color of the tower, makes a good contrast with the sky. Excellent work!
skippy007 (12510) 2009-04-16 16:51
Hello Bill, I thought you were going to tell me that this was a reflection on the Sarawak River, I think you would have gotten away with a little lie like that ;-).
The detail, colour & clarity are excellent, your idea is brilliant, has worked very well, one that I must keep in mind.
parbo (11092) 2009-04-16 19:14
This is very clear capture and clever rotate that creates nice effect like flower. Contrast and excellent sharpness of roof textures are wonderful. Dark clouds and natural blue part of sky wonderful too. Congratulations.
siamesa (27737) 2009-04-16 19:38
Congrats for your original and nice idea. REally a work very well done. The colours are marvelous.
marietom (34607) 2009-04-17 1:07
simple, et superbe ! J'aime beaucoup cette composition et ses couleurs.
jalab_temen (2193) 2009-04-17 2:31
Bill I love this joke of upside-down rotation, in this position this tower seems a flying steam of luftballoon.
The tough compo, the clear colors, and the effective framing are the reasons why I mark it as one of my favs. Regards, Jalab
CMJC (4026) 2009-04-17 4:08
Miha2ou7 (5048) 2009-04-17 5:10
Innovative. We all like that. Quite a way of avoiding distracting elements. I usually just do some cloning. :> Anyways, nice color balance and sharpness. Good though on the frame too.
Longroute (19394) 2009-04-17 8:36
At the beginning I didn't understand what it was...I thought it was a balloon...
Well... as an abstract composition is fairly good: colours, sharpness and light are so fine that makes an interesting image "per se". (But in this case its place should be TL...)
A fine experiment.
jhm (137652) 2009-04-17 9:58
Very nice picture lovely experiment with the tower.
This is something simple that you turned into something more.
Splendid composition, excellent soft colour image, this gives a nice picture.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
sayeed_rahman (6239) 2009-04-17 10:01
you did the right thing...a good thought behind the presentation..funnily even i have done something differently in my post today :)
i think its important nowadays to think about what we do with our shots after its downloaded from the memory card...tweaked etc..the final results...what it should be in print or on a photo hosing site..the finished work..the moment it show itself to the world around us..could be in office or someone at the bus..airport lounge..
i mean we may have the best results from the sensors..but what we project as our final work is who we are and what makes the photograph special...
this one is simple but with a pinch of imagination..voila..something that looks not to obvious and someone's favourite..
Good thinking Bill
lestans (17098) 2009-04-17 10:41
what a joke! I couldn't understand what you posted until I read your note!
I tried to guess looking at tumbnail: is it a balloon? In Borneo baloons are made this way??
It must be an interesting building, and you made a lovely composition!
dip (23532) 2009-04-17 14:23
what a sharp and clear reflection!!!
excellent captured and framed,
great artistic composition,
very well done,
gunbud (34066) 2009-04-17 18:38
The lovely golden dome is wonderfully complimented by the vivid blue sky.
The little bit of gray clouds makes distinct divide between the gold and blue.
delpeoples (52929) 2009-04-17 19:38
hi Bill, when I first saw this I thought it was the bottom of a hot-air balloon. Having read your Note, I now realise what it is. Either way, the image is excellent and sharp. It is beautifully exposed and contrasts so well against the blue, blue sky. Great job and thanks for making me think, Lisa.
SteveH (6211) 2009-04-17 22:24
Hi Bill, turing this upside down, I think, makes it much more interesting and one cannot but help wonder what it is. Technically it is good too, with ncie colour, sharpness and exposure throughout. cheers, Steve
pablominto (53744) 2009-04-17 23:14
Artistic and well framed!
Superb details, seems like the D700 delivers the merchandise...
It is also interesting to notice the politicians are building temples to their own honour!
rodgerg (55767) 2009-04-18 0:44
A very astonishing and very original view, very nice too with an excellent framing very well selectd and a superb yellow color which arise very well in the blue BG. An another original and very good photowork in your gallery.
syrus_persia (2270) 2009-04-18 1:07
what a capture, amazing color, perfect light and atmosphere..
PaulVDV (21657) 2009-04-18 3:45
Looking at the thumbnail I thought it was a reflection in water. In general I'm not really sure if I like pictures turned upside down very much. But I have to admit that this one is very fine and you're right to post it here.
And I agree that it does look like a flower.
The combination of the yellow-brown and blue and grey tones is also very beautiful.
Best regards, Paul
axiotea (21649) 2009-04-18 6:41
I also thought it was a reflection from the thumbnails and I found quite original the way you've presented us the golden roof, upside down ;) it stands out well against the sky for which I like the different color tones...
AiresSantos (56155) 2009-04-18 7:12
Fine POV and colours in this beautiful picture. Nice tittle for this one. Excellent sharpness and lightning

wonderfull idea, big and lovely graphism, amazing golden colour. Excellent shot. Congratulations!
JCG (35129) 2009-04-18 9:36
An original idea to turn over this roof to obtain a graphic aspect which approaches a flower. I like much the quality of the image and in particular the harmony of the colors. Well done Bill, bravo.
With all my friendships and a good WE,
jafadabret (56501) 2009-04-18 10:36
Tu as bien fait d'inverser la photo pour en faire une belle fleur jaune sur fond bleu.
Beau graphisme et excellente composition !
azaf1 (15929) 2009-04-18 16:52
This is trully highly artistic. A great graphistic composition with a unique combination of those rich colors. Compliments, my friend
danos (85187) 2009-04-18 23:18
it's nice your idea to inverse the dome of the building that's really looks like as a fold flower.Excellent the sharpness and the clarity as the great contrast that created from the dome that outline against the blue sky.Well done.
mirarer (4751) 2009-04-19 3:45
Original and artistic idea with a nice result. Beautiful colors combination.
albertojr (738) 2009-04-19 3:46
it's flawless. with your 1/1250a i really thought it's a moving hot air baloon. your idea is great. well done.

Excellent colors even i would like to see this complete
Didi (56061) 2009-04-19 10:49
Interesting composition who looks like a magnificient hot air golden ballon.
Very genius idea.
pierrefonds (56104) 2009-04-19 16:03
The inversion of the roof is looking like a mirror effect in the water which is very still. The details and colors are clear and sharp. The good luminosity has a good effect of the colors of the scene. Have a nice day.
shevchenko (19257) 2009-04-19 19:16
So pity the works delay again.
Creative pov and editing, I see your name also showing in the reflection effect, distinct color, good sharpness, well done.
aadilj (18102) 2009-04-19 22:35
Nice idea and a very well captured image with lovely crisp sharpness, vibrant hues and a magnificent control Bill

Very curious idea, interesting effect.
I like the colors and light.
Atousa (7131) 2009-04-21 1:26
It has been a very nice idea ; it really looks like a golden flower..I might have cropped a bit from the bottom to have its stem in an imaginary soil too..very well seen n captured..thank you for this distinct shot.
Best regards, Atousa
Bluejeans (64247) 2009-04-21 5:36
Linda foto com um efeito visual magnifico , gostei muito do contraste de cor entre o amarelo e azul , bom enquadramento da foto , parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo
lrw1966 (1632) 2009-04-21 6:12
Wonderfully creative and artistic. Very nicely done.
ls7902 (7328) 2009-04-21 6:32
An eye catching presentation. From the thumbnail I thought it was a capture of a hot air balloon. The inversion makes the pointed roof more interesting. Nice and simple background colors giving the image much minimalistic appeal. Regards. Latiff.
BWJ (3060) 2009-04-21 7:04
How clever to invert the picture doubling the interest of an already excellently clear, detailed, and colorful photo!
Kielia (23287) 2009-04-21 11:58
a great idea and a fantastic realization! A very elegant composition that shows the beauty of this architecture. The bright colors are very harmonious. My compliments!
edytungkal (4551) 2009-04-21 23:04
Great idea to present this beautiful building like this, you have good contrast colours between the details. A simple the nice shot Bill, one of your best....thanks
riclopes (35577) 2009-04-22 0:44
Olá Bill, very creative presentation here. The inverted image totally works for me and in the thumbnails it made me think of something interesting and intriguing, flying in the sky. Now I see it's a beautiful golden flower :)
Wandering_Dan (3449) 2009-04-22 11:10
Hi, Bill -
Most unusual and original. In a way, the shape reminds me of a calla lily (I'm doing a series of them in my backyard now), but stylized. Great use of light and minimalist elements, and it was also a good choice to position it off center rather than try for symmetry, which would have been much less interesting.
sagar (2410) 2009-04-23 11:22
I dont know what made you go for this inverted presentation, but I must say this looks amazing! Very good colors and rich in aesthetic appeal.
zeca (19762) 2009-04-24 15:49
Very nice work, Bill. The architecture's details are beautiful and you had a nice idea inverting it, since its really abstract. Excellent photo!
Have a nice weekend!
vuthithienthu (12) 2009-04-25 23:00
I do like the original architecture
but it 's more dramatic when you invert it
siolaw (38262) 2009-04-25 23:28
I think you actually was "lying down on the floor and looking backward and upward to see this." instead of simply rotating it at PP (;D
The compo idea is good and well pressented. You did good to have it slightly off centered. Quality, I have to admit, is excellent.
emka (76433) 2009-04-26 0:41
very clever photo. Indeed, it looks a bit like a flower of campanula. Splendid idea and realization.
danyy (0) 2009-04-26 22:51
une photo qui mérite amplement son succès par la menière originale dont elle est construite, mais aussi avec ses qualités techniques.
Il est vrai que les couleurs de cette lumière solaire sont au comble du fantastique et que les teintes se marient parfaitement.
npecanhuk (63594) 2009-04-27 2:34
Excellent idea in this picture with intriguing, interesting and beautiful results!
I loved it!
TFS - Congratulations!
jorgi (3810) 2009-04-27 23:50
such an exquisite presentation of architectural element. I think you did fantastic work here. The idea of turning it upside down makes it even more appealing as we wonder of its origins. The result does associates of a flower and provides the same amount of beautiness and delicacy. All is composed in one simple yet most wonderful image that impacts with its fragility and elegancy.
lucasgalodoido (21051) 2009-04-30 10:20
bem interessante mesmo essa perspectiva, aprece até um balão de gás. Gostei das cores também, ficaram ótimas, e com um agradável contraste.
Parabéns e Abraço
sacimar (25975) 2009-05-04 12:38
wow!, excelent idea and very well done, I like the picture, great details and colours, excellent work!
MarcT (20964) 2009-05-05 12:20
Beautiful colors and "interesting" inversion of the picture.
A very original picture.
Colombiana (2955) 2009-05-05 18:21
What a great idea! Very creative and the result is very artistic. I personally wouldn't have thought of that. Pretty golden "flower" ... I notice your watermark is reversed as well. Did you change your mind last minute, or was this part of the idea ;)
Regards from Miami!
racheltafoya (509) 2009-05-06 18:29
OMG! I thought this was a hot air balloon or a weather vane or something until I read your note. I love it! Yes, you definitely made the right choice inverting the image.
I adore the color contrast between the yellow and the blue/gray of the sky. Superb details in the roof.
serp2000 (39250) 2009-05-07 5:08
I add my congratulations to you. Great artwork! Excellent composition. TFS!
foozi (7101) 2009-05-08 2:43
superbs and lovely.
Special and unique.
Well captured and nice presentation that challenge the eyes.
stego (24000) 2009-05-09 13:58
I thought I had critiqued this beauty already. I praise your sense of observation! That beautiful roof really looks like a flower seen from this angle. I notice that you avoided a symmetric compo without sacrificing the harmony, which is one of the qualities of the image.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2009-05-17 6:51
this is a very good idea of cropping. beautifull composition with an excellent light and colors.
argycon (2769) 2009-05-17 13:17
Amazibng shot, great idea!
Superb colors! Fantastic!!
clio (27955) 2009-05-18 13:33
Yes, no doubt, you made the good choice!
This golden, slightly decentred tulip is really wonderful. Colors and graphics are fantastic.
It is a wonderful and very original photo.
jusninasirun (17160) 2009-05-20 23:18
This is clever Bill, right down to the watermark. I was wondering if I was missing something this spectacular while I was in Kuching. You are such a smart guy, Bill. I like this and applaud your very good sense of humor.
My first visit of this new TE facelift and still struggling with some of the buttons.
Looking forward to shooting with you again in the near future. We might have TT session HERE (http://www.flickr.com/photos/wickedfilm/3549656493/)
denisn72 (8300) 2009-05-24 15:00
It looks like a golden flower indeed. Stunning colours and details. The idea is impressive. I like that kind of work! Congratulations Bill!
Flavia (10352) 2009-05-28 23:06
This is awesome! Great idea! By inverting the picture you added the curiosity fact to catch our attention. The structure itself is already eye catching by its shape and colour, but it was the framing and the inversion that added such a special touch. Congratulations, this is a masterpiece!
jimkil (1702) 2009-06-05 15:21
Excellent, a strong image particularly as you have rotated it Bill. Colour are gorgeous and the lines and curves are a strong point to the image.
kokoro-zukai (10) 2009-06-10 20:18
The shape of the triangular roof gives a strong visual. Very assuming and easy to the eye yet you gave a twist that makes it more eye catching!
Good quality with fine details, I like it a lot!
fplohoff (0) 2010-10-01 15:44
172 points for such an hackneyed picture is incredible. Embarrassing.
