One on in a series of pictures taken on a stormy afternoon in the Kek Lok Si Buddhist temple complex in the town of Ayer Itam in Penang.
Kek Lok Si is the largest such complex in Penang. The buildings that make up the complex are a mixture of Chinese, Burmese and Thai styles.
The construction of the temple began in 1890 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras.
The primary benefactor of the Kek Lok Si Temple in 1906 was Kapitan Chung Keng Quee.
In 1930, the seven storey main pagoda of the temple or the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown; reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.
The complex is still being developed. In 2002, a 30.2m bronze statue of the Kuan Yin was completed and opened to public. It replaced the previous white plaster Kuan Yin statue which was damaged due to a fire a few years earlier. The bronze statue is located on the hillside above the pagoda while the head of the previous statue which survived the fire is preserved and placed on the right hand corner of the new statue.

You reach deep in your drawer or hard disk. Beautiful red roof under the dramatic sky. Haha, pagoda of ten thousands Buddhas. How many Buddhas big or small I have seen? Many thousands, I suppose.

seen all too many of these skies recently. But it does make for some excellent and moody shots, especially when taken like this. A glorious contrast of bright colours against nature's amazing backdrop. Works perfectly!

the details of the roof are very decorative and its bright colors set up against stormy sky create eye catching contrast. Good choice of tight framing although it makes me wonder how pretty is the whole house since you are giving only a glimpse of the painted walls.
Great colors, contrast and sharpness.

C'est mon ciel préféré pour la photographie. Quel bel effet dramatique derrière ce toit orange. Une contre plongée qui donne de l'ampleur.

The colour contrasts are immediately eye-catching.
You have caught that strange luminosity of light that occurs just before a storm. It has made the roof of the temple so striking with its colours and its textures. No wonder you chose to photograph it!
My warm regards,

Hello Stephen - The rich colours and low key look works very well here. A shot packed with the atmosphere of an impending storm! Did you get a soaking? Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Stephen - what an explosion of color! Backed by the stormy cloud above, the roof really explodes here in reds and oranges. The partial crop you've given it works beautifully to accentuate the roof without anything unnecessary. Wonderful light and color management here - thanks!

Excellent low angle viewpoint. The house roof is in superb light. The contrast against dark sky is perfect.
Very well done
Wish you a very nice weekend.
