I break away from my Penang photos in awhile as our almost yearly hazy affair is back. The occurance of haze has been going on for years as I can remember. It was reported that the main cause of haze was from some opening burning from our nearby country. A lot of hotspots were spotted from satellite photos. Couple with the wind blowing to our direction, visibility in certain area has dropped to 500 meters comparing to the usual 7,000 meters.
I have another photo in TE captured last year Haze 2005. More photos taken last year could be found in chaity's photos.
The hazy situation was hotly discussed/debated year after year between governments. Sad to say, no much of improvement but if not, getting worse.
With all the don't care attitute towords our enviroument, soon our planet will turn into a dirty
place. Living in this planet will be a struggle. The day will come sooner if nothing is being done now.
I was on leave last Thursday and Friday to clear some of my leave. As usual, I went to my "playground" in KLIA (KL International Airport) for planes spotting. It was at around 1PM, the sun was right on top of my head. Due to the hazy condition, I could actually shoot the sun in the afternoon without any filter. 8-(
The photo was actually in color and I decided to remove all the colors. I feel that in B&W mode,
details of the hazy condition was more visible. Adjusted some brightness and intensity. You may
compare the color version in this workshop.
Do let me know which version do you prefer and suggest any improvement over the color version.
Thanks and everybody will have a better tomorrow !

Well done capturing the sun with the haze over it. I first thought this was the moon but after reading your note, realized that it's the sun.

A BW picture with as subject the moon, very well idea and a unusual picture for you, but absolutely not bad. I'm curious for the next picture. Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice weekend,

I also thought this was the moon. Good b&w photo depicting the haze. I also heard and read from the newspapers about the haze. I hope the sky is now clear at your side of the earth. Best regards. Danilo

Hi Chai. Thank god the damned haze has gone now for another year - it wasn't as bad as 1997 or 2005, but this year it seemed to last longer - after two months of breathing smoke, my throat felt like sandpaper - I hate to think what long term damage we are suffering to our lungs. Your photograph looks good in B&W - it has a more 'smokey' feel - but perhaps the colour version wouldn't have resulted in some critiquers mistaking it for the sun. Cheers . . . David

Mystic mood in this shot Chai. B&W perfectly works and add a special feeling at the whole lot.
