Photographer’s Note

According to Chinese calendar, tomorrow is the beginning of the month of March, also the beginning of the “Qing Ming” (清明节), a season of Chinese to sacrifice their ancestors. The tombs showing at above photo was shoot at Nirvana Memorial Park.

Nirvana Memorial Park (富贵山庄) is the largest and the most expensive burial site in Malaysia. It is famous with its good “Feng Shui” where the land is fertile growing with dense clumps, surrounding by mountains and streams. The actual location of this park is near to Kacau, about 20 minutes driving along Lalang Road from Semenyih town.

This is a luxury burial site for rich people, where the value for an unit cemetery is same with the price of a bungalow house. Some one can purchase their graveyard and choose the location they like when they are still alive. During the “Qing Ming”season, many rich descendants driving their luxury cars like BMW or Mercedes to this memorial park for sacrifice their ancestors. *Due to heavy tax (to protect local car’s industry), the price of an imported luxury car selling here become double or triple higher than the market price quote at Europe.

At the other site, burial sites for poor people are always out of maintain and growing with weeds.

Excellent sharpness, with good colour & saturation. Superb repetition of the tombstones. The purple flowers contrast well against the green lawn. Tfs!

interesting to see this kind of cemetery I never had seen before. I can imagine chinese culture have survived in malasia and beeing so traditional how it was in old China. Nice you have shown a big sepulture in foreground, giving us an idea about how they are.

The trees, the bushes and the flowers are framing well the cemetery. The point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the cemetery. The intensity of the light is giving a good contrast between the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Ally,

Excessive materialism and vanity makes me sick, specially because, "radical" or "marxist" as it may sound, much more often than not, rich get rich because they contributed much to impoverish some less fortunate (or often more honest), directly or indirectly, voluntarily or not. The story you tell with your note and you illustrate so well with your photo touches the ridicule, although it's nothing I haven't seen close to me, although perhaps in such a scale. If it is already ridicule buying expensive cars in a way to say "look, I am smarter and more important than you because I have this car", what to say about burial sites. Do they mean "look, I am more important than me because my father is buried here or there"?
