Batu Kawan Bridge
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a new bridge & road that runs across some acres of mangrove swampland and hill on the island of Batu Kawan. I'm not too sure if I can call this an island but it is separated from the mainland by swamps & rivers. With these new constructions the other side of the island will now easily accessible. As at this moment the road is not opened & known to the general public yet. It is nice feeling to have the wide road & the area all to yourself & having the chance to watch the local folks spending their time fishing & trapping crabs for their own consumptions.
I think the stick is there for someone to secure his small wooden boat. The location is about one or two kilometers to sea.

Hi Latiff,
very unusual pov and not less interesting. The bridge in its perspective works really fine on the left. I like to see its reflection on the water. Well done!
Regards,
Carlos
Hi Latiff
Agree with 'Belido' that it is a unique POV. The bridge design is also unlike the others that I have seen. Was there any particular reason for using ISO 400?
Cheers / Steven
Hi Latiff,
Shooting at ISO400 with Rebel XT shouldnt be a problem with the noise level as it is very well controlled. The POV is not very unusual for me but I like the colour contrast from the shot. Maybe you can guide me through my doubts, why are you shooting at 1/60s and not faster to achieve a sharper image? Are you using a tripod?

Hi Latiff,
comparing the malaysian environment and European's, it seems that it is quite difficult for us to get into beautiful natural back-ups such as skies, flowers, bricks etc for background. Yet I found that you are to defy this. Eg, as for this bridge, I found it is quite bare. Nothing wrong with that because it is beyond our control. In a way it makes the overall photo score less than the one shot with better side-menus such wild flowers , pebbles, clear water etc.
You exploit the poles in the water as an add-in which is very important to break the monotonous.
In terms of techniques there is no doubt about your skills and eyes. But if those side-menus are present, then I would believe your photo will make viewers more astonished than before.
Thanks your for guidance and help.
Regards,
Foozi

Hello Latiff,
I am afraid it is not the best possible POV. The most interesting part of this bridge is its arch. Two steps to the right would have been enough to get an almost full reflection of it that together with the arch itselt could have produced an interesting ellyptical form like on the picture of g_clemens showing a bridge of Tevere in Rome.
As for technical details:
-the left spoil spot is visible also here
-the lens (probably in wide mode) produces quite strong chromatic aberration (look at the pole), you can corrigate it in PP (Nikon Capture NX for instance is capable for that).
Best whishes
Laszlo
